This Defender Security U 9509 Latch Guard Plate Cover helps protect swing-out doors from forced entry at the most vulnerable area of a door. The outward swinging door latch compatible with right or left swing-out doors. Made of heavy-duty steel with a gray -painted finish, this latch guard cover is strong and made to last, giving you extra security and peace of mind. Easily install this outward swinging door security cover in less than 30 minutes with a few simple tools. The outward swinging door set includes mounting hardware and installation instructions so you have everything you need to make your home more secure. The 6 inch cover features a 5/16 inch offset lip which is designed to cover the latch area of an out swinging hinged door. Fits around standard 2-3/8 inch residential backsets. This latch shield is constructed of durable steel and comes in a gray painted finish. It features a 5/16 in. offset and it accommodates up to 3 in. outside diameter rosettes. This latch shield is designed for use with out-swinging doors with a 2-3/8 in. backset, and it can be used on residential, commercial and industrial applications. Use of this latch shield on out-swinging doors secures against access through forced entry. This guard measures 2-5/8 in. wide x 6 in. tall and it has 4-7/8 in. mounting hole centers. Fasteners required for installation are included.

Easy install. Take your time. Deadbolt is now covered.Used a clamp to hold and position and then make the marks for drilling.If you have a metal skinned door a center punch is helpful.10mm socket to snug down the bolts.

I needed this to protect my fence latch. The plate appears sturdy and installed without problems, but the bolts are not that strong and the nuts are metric, not SAE.

Dead-bolt security plates that are offset like this one are not found on Amazon (or elsewhere), so thought I would try this plate for that purpose. For the dead-bolt in our garage door, the thin strip of trim wood that the latch plate screws into to secure the dead-bolt is only a half-inch thick, and it would be very easy to kick through that should someone want to break in. This is a design flaw in many exterior doors, or at least in the way that they are installed. I used this plate with some 4-inch lag bolts and washers instead of the supplied hardware, and it works well as a strong security plate that better supports the dead-bolt if the door is forced.
