I use edged tools nearly every day, from the kitchen to pocket knives, garden loppers, a machete, and a lawn-mower... and they all get dull eventually. I thought this KASTFORCE disc/belt sander would be a good starting point for power-sharpening and I was right! As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a basic/entry-level type sander and if you're super serious about alignment and service life, it may not be for you. But really, for the price, you would be hard-pressed to find any sander that would compete.The sander is pleasantly quiet for a power tool. I expected to need ear protection, but that isn't the case with this unit. Once I understood how to fit everything together, install and setup adjustments were also relatively straight forward. I think that as an entry level kit, this sander should have included a few additional belts of different grits for refining edges, but the included belts will definitely put an edge on your mower blade quick! Also 1x30 belts are relatively easy to find after market. Recommended.

I wanted a small belt sander and this one looked like it was worth a look. It is a great looking tool but it has issues that can be overcome making it a reasonable deal for the price.Assembly went okay. Some parts needed a little wiggling to make it fit but it all goes together. Where I first had issues was related to knobs and bolts not tightening enough to keep things square and secure. I added lock washer to the disc bed and that seemed to help but not eliminate alignment issues. Likewise, bolt under the belt bed needs a lock washer (I haven't put one on yet).You can get things squared up and level if you take time. You do need to check this for sure before starting any job that requires being square.For simple sanding jobs, sharpening etc this is a good machine and worth the money. If you use it a lot, don't be surprised if you find yourself wanting a better, more expensive sander. Despite how my words might imply otherwise, I'm happy with the product.
