I had a more "travel sized" chain breaker in the saddle bag on my single gear, and because they have to be "travel sized" the handle was not very comfortable to use.I got this one solely because of that bigger grip, but once I started to use it I noticed the design on the chain tooth is also superior compared to what I had. It's tall enough to hold the chain after removing the hinge, but not too tall to get in the way of usage. Also like the fact the little trinkets can be stored in the handle bar, and the "cap" has a cupping space where you can fit the chain hook and the extra tip can be put in before you cap it back into the handle bar, which is not screwed on, another plus for me personally). I like to store trinkets after I use it because I have ADHD and if I put that stuff down somewhere on the ground, that's it game over I am never going to find it ever again.Overall pretty satisfied. Will recommend.

This chain breaker is easy to use (or learn with if you’ve never used one before), and works well for home repairs. It’s a handy tool that should be in every avid cyclist’s toolbox. Especially for this price…there’s no excuse not to get one.I wax my own chains, and having a chain breakers is a vital tool for this. But even if you don’t wax your own chains, having a chain breaker handy is a good idea for all cyclists because if you experience a mechanical issue with your chain—maybe a link broke or gets twisted (I’ve seen it happen)—having this tool will make it much easier to get back on the road without a visit to the LBS. Hey, I love LBS folks—they’re great peeps—but they get busy and when you need to ride, you need to ride!

This is not a professional, shop quality tool. That being said, it works perfectly and would be an excellent addition to any home bike mechanic's toolbox. I've used it twice now to break single speed (1/8") chains and it worked perfectly. Two thumbs up!

I cannot express how many times I have had to pry apart a rusted chain with just WD40 and a Screw Driver. This makes it a breeze and I wish I had it years ago when I could have saved many bruised and cut knuckles. It functions perfectly, is heavy and well made. Where have you been all my life nifty little tool? Good job guys.

For the money, this is a nice chain breaker tool. It is a bit large for carrying on the bicycle, but well suited for the shop. The included instructions are good, however a chain checker tool is mentioned in the directions which was not included in this purchase with the tool. The only thing important missing from the instructions was the final step of tight link elimination. A person could look this up on their own, but it should have been written here. I did not watch the linked video. The tool is wide yet adjustable, thus should handle about any size bicycle chain. I did a test break and reassemble on a 3/32” wide chain and it went easily and smoothly. Even if you rarely need to break chains, for the price it is a good tool to have around. I give it 5 stars for usefulness and low price, but could ding it 1/2 star for the lack of tight link elimination tips.

Not the best finish, but it works. It's definitely not a small portable size that you would take with you on a ride, but great for shop use.

Over the past five decades, I've owned quite a few chain tools ranging from absymal to pretty good but not perfect. (I have not found one yet that is perfect, but the search continues.) This one, I am happy to report falls into the "pretty good but not perfect" end of the spectrum. It has a good handle, the threads are fine pitch (this helps when pushing out a tough chain pin), and it will handle just about any chain width. There is storage space in the handle for a chain hook -- something that I have always managed to get by without, but if you have one, it does make things easier. Now that I have a chain hook handy when I need it, it will get a lot of use. The hollow screw for a backing plate is a clever idea for handling different chain widths, but it does have a drawback. The chain pin that you are driving out goes inside the hollow screw where it cannot be seen. Being able to see the pin is handy when trying to drive out the pin just far enough to split the chain. This isn't an issue of you are going to replace the pin with a new one or with a Quick Link, but you are planning to re-use that pin when reassembling the chain, you don't want to drive it out completely. I was able to do so successfully by feel, but it's nice to have a visual back up -- something you don't get with this design. When reassembling a chain, I had to be very carefully in getting things lined up right, or the chain pin can get pushed sideways. This is not good and prevents you from reassembling the chain until you straighten the alignment of the pin. I've never had this problem with any other chain tool so it caught me off guard when it happened with this one. But I found that if I was careful in aligning everything, I could avoid this problem. This chain tool does come with instructions. They are obviously translated from another language as the sentence structure and word choice are odd, but overall, they do explain how to use the tool. (Not an issue for me, but for someone who has never used a chain tool before, this is useful information.) One thing missing from the instructions is how to loosen a stiff link after assumbling it. For that information, you will have to look elsewhere. Imperfections notwithstanding, this is chain tool that does the job it was intended for.
