Step 1
Unscrew the black knob. Detach the outer stainless-steel cover. You may need to use something flat - like a regular screwdriver - to pry it loose.
Step 2
Remove the inner lid: Squeeze the barrel to push out the lid or screw the knob onto the lid and use that as a handle to pull out the lid easily.
Step 3
Add rocks, any abrasives you want, and water. Don't overload! If the barrel is too full, the rocks won't move enough to polish properly.
Step 4
Reattach the lids and knob to the barrel tightly to prevent leaks. Place the barrel on the base with lids facing both sides respectively.

I was excited when this showed up at the door. Having been watching rock tumblers for a bit and always thinking it would be a lot of fun to polish up rocks that I found in my explorations and see what they could turn into.The rubberized interior of the containers protect your rocks and are large enough for quite a few rocks. 8lbs across two containers is in my opinion about ideal. You can have one barrel constantly running the course state and slowly graduate the 2nd container up through the 3-4 polish stages.The lid seems to seal well. You can set it to run from 1 to 9 days and it also has 9 speeds.Note about speeds: I had it set too high (like 7) and the left container ran about right, but the right would spin up to full speed then slow down to a full stop. And just cycle like that over and over. I let it do this for my first 7 day run. Since I've lowered the speed down to about 3 and both barrels seem to run at the same speed (approximately) and it just overall works much better.The base is very sturdy metal and the controls are easy to operate, although the power supply does get a bit warm to the touch. The machine itself is very quiet - of course rocks tumbling in there is not quiet so you'll want to put this somewhere that won't be a problem.
