I had purchased this SET of speakers but only one showed up to my door. Watch out when ordering speakers from amazon. They'll only send one package instead of two that are supposed to come. The speakers themselves are fantastic, sad I had to return mine.

I was a total 80’s kid. I can remember going to a party at some point. The Violent Femmes were playing from these giant wooden tower speakers when some jerk who had had a bit too much to drink knocked one over on my foot. I actually fractured a bone. Despite that, tower speakers are just as much an emblem of my teenage years as much as anything else. While not nearly as giant and HEAVY, these are something of a throwback to that era.In a day and age where everything is getting smaller (think air pods, MiniCoopers, tiny houses), these speakers are unapologetically present in the room. What I like? Well, the sound for one thing. And I apologize… I’m not an audiophile. I’m a mom with a huge collection of music that I sometimes get to play when little people go to bed. It’s funny how Darling Nikki on Prince’s Purple Rain album used to never faze me, and now I’ll run over my cat in order to skip it before my kids hear it.What else is good? Well, while not what is typical for today’s market, in which it seems everyone wants to hide our entertainment devices, whether it be our giant TVs or surround sound systems, this is still much more svelte than its ancestors. Do I find these particularly aesthetically pleasing? I do not, but when you get something like this, you are making more of a commitment to sound vs style. These are not for everyone. But any Gen X’er out there looking to crank New Order or Phil Collins (think The Air Tonight)? You might want to check these out. Just mind your feet.

This is my third pair of PSB speakers. I love the Paul Barton sound. It's creamy and enjoyable. You can listen for hours without fatigue. The first pair of PSB speakers I owned were the Image 4Ts. These were towers with 2 woofers and 2 tweeters...each. They had big sound, but with that signature smooth quality. I auditioned speakers costing two to three times what the Image 4Ts' cost, but I kept coming back to them for the sound. And I ended up buying them and using them for a decade and a half. Most recently I was using PSB's new Alpha P5 bookshelf speakers on stands. These had that wonderful PSB sound, but at smaller footprint and price. They're great. However, if you're looking to build a 2-channel system (as opposed to a 5- or 7-channel surround system), I'd recommend upgrading to the T20 towers like I did. They essentially take up the same floor space and, once you add the cost of some nice stands for the P5s, you're in T20 territory from a cost perspective. And boy are the T20s an upgrade in sound. Here's my full review:// PROSWONDERFUL SOUND: Seriously folks, the PSB sound is rich like butter. They shine with genres like jazz and folk. But they also work well with hip hop and rock. You're just not going to get that full-throttle punch that you expect from brands like Klipsch. And I'm fine with that, because I find punchy-er sets to result in ear fatigue over time.SOUNDSTAGE: What's remarkable about both the T20s and their little siblings the P5s is the room filling soundstage you get even when they're not toed in. I've found that setting these at least a foot from the rear wall will bring out the kind of soul-stirring bass you expect from much larger speakers.FOOTPRINT: I live in the city, in a long, narrow rowhouse. By stacking a couple smaller woofers on top of each other, PSB saves substantial width with the T20s. This keeps their footprint and profile slim...and easy to wedge into my narrow home. This design also works well if you want to flank something, like a TV, in a tight space or you want your speakers to fade into your décor a bit.//CONSFINISH: In order to keep these gems priced right, PSB uses a veneer on top of MDF. I surely wish they were solid wood and would happily pay for a "signature" edition in solid wood. I just loathe the low-end look and durability of veneer furniture. The seams on my walnut-finished T20s are visible and I don't love that. The P5s I have are finished in black ash and I'd recommend that finish over the walnut any day. The black ash just seems less "fake". In addition, the magnetic grills, while useful and attractive, arrived with the PSB appliques all askew. They're stick on and just don't seem to stay in place over time...making the whole thing look cheap. Although the idea of "naked" cones gives my OCD a bit of a flair up, I may remove the grills and live without them.Overall, I think these speakers are priced well below their value for the sound quality they deliver. I highly recommend anything that bears the PSB label if you're looking for great sound at an affordable price.

PSB's Alpha T20 speakers are well made, stylish, and sound amazing to my ears. The Alpha's come very nicely packaged, and despite the box being rather beat up when it was delivered the speakers were in perfect condition. The materials used on the speakers are high quality, the wood veneer is nicely finished, and the speakers have some nice heft to them and are not tipsy. Included with the speakers are pegs for placing them on carpets, or round feet for hardwood floors. These insert into treads under the plastic feet. I actually had to remove the plastic feet to make the speakers just short enough to fit in the space under my television. The only part of the speakers that I felt meh about where the metal grills. They feel rough around the edges, some of the holes were clogged with paint, and the PSB label is just glued on and fell off. Thankfully, the grills adhere strongly with magnets and stay in place well. If you're not into the grills the speakers behind them are very nicely finished and attractive.I have the speakers hooked up to my Yamaha Aventage RX-A880 receiver. I hooked them up using the bi-wired method. The devices I have hooked up to the Yamaha are a Samsung TV via optical audio output, a 4K Panasonic Bluray player via HDMI, and a Bluesound Vault 2i via optical audio.Previously I had a 3.1 system with Polk bookshelf speakers and a Sony subwoofer. So my previous system wasn't exactly low end, but these PSB speakers blow that set-up out of the water despite only being a stereo set-up. That's right I ditched the center speaker and subwoofer and find the sound quality to be improved. Music played over the Bluesound in FLAC format sounds warm, vibrant, and nicely rendered. Bass is strong, but not overpowering, and vocals sound distinct and pleasant. When watching movies and television, dialog is easy to hear and sound effects are distinct and powerful. It's truly hard to put into words just how great these speakers are.All in all... awesome speakers.

Outstanding speakers. They sound so good. They have perfect highs and midrange with tight low-end. They are smaller then they look in the picture.
