The steel doesn’t spark well and the chert wasn’t great. Decided to try to make my own and ended up with a better one.

I like to have a full availability of fire on outings. Now I can show off this latest trick. Nothing like making fire from stone

Can get a few sparks now and then. White stone material. Looks like white cultured marble. Have a piece of black flint that I picked up here in New Mexico - works better!

I think this is a type of geode, it's a square piece & very hard to knap a new edge, however it makes good sparks with minimal wear on the rock, I would buy again if it ever wears out

Works exactly like it should. The steel is good quality and fits well in the hand and the flint was a good size with sharp edges as well. Naturally, the edges on the flint get dull pretty quick after striking but that can be easily fixed. For the price, this is definitely one of the better options on Amazon!

I needed a piece of flint for my scout troop to teach them to use real flint and steel to light a fire. This piece of so called flint was a cut off of Brazilian agate. Also besides being a Jeweler Gemologist for the last 47 years I was a major rough cutter from 1975 to 1995 cutting at least 20 ton of this material into bookends, clock faces and decorative items. I do know what flint looks like. The Brazilian agate will produce a spark but not like real flint. I also cut thousands of small off square pieces of flint back in the day that were used for flint lock rifles.
