This is a very well made umbrella assembled with high quality materials and parts.Be aware that this is a large and substantial umbrella and needs two people to set up. I have mine bolted to a wooden deck with the optional steel plate.Make sure you install it in the best position where you want the shade.

This low-profile base was PERFECT for installing our umbrella on our balcony/deck. We originally purchased the water-filled base but realized it was going to take up too much space and was not permanent enough. The seller was absolutely amazing in communicating with us so that we could get this base and return the other.Since I have also seen the water-filled base first hand, I can attest to the quality of that one as well if you need something more modular! This steel base plate is HEAVY (a good thing) and allows for our permanent installation while taking up less of a footprint. Highly recommended!

Purchased purple leaf cantilevered umbrella deck mounting plate to eliminate the water filled tubs. The plate was painted to match our Trex deck. Since it is a Trex deck the mounting area was reinforced with 2x pressure treated lumber. The plate came with stainless steel lag screws. I opted to purchase longer stainless steel nuts and bolts to mount and clamp the plate to the reinforcement. Umbrella is very sturdy. No movement during wind gusts and now more seating room on the deck.

This is our second Purple Leaf umbrella. For the first one, we opted for the sand/water base, especially as we weren't quite ready to commit to a location. But this time around we knew exactly where it needed to go AND there wasn't enough room for a big base. Some important points to consider:1) If mounting on a composite deck, you must ensure there is adequate framing below. In my case, I had to add 2x8 blocking to the existing deck structure.2) Again, if mounting on a composite deck, the included bolts are a little too short. I opted to buy longer stainless steel lag bolts so that's there's about an 1-1/2 to 2" of threads into the framing.3) My sample arrived with a few minor chips in the finish. This is definitely not aluminum, so if it starts rusting, I'll likely paint it to match the decking or the plastic trim ring.

This is the best way to install your umbrella on a deck. Ditch the giant trip-hazards of water-filled anchors. They are unsightly and take up a lot of deck space. Use this heavy steel plate instead. NOTE: I painted mine with a brown “Rustoleum” to better blend it into my deck, and give more weather/rust protection to the steel - but NOT required - it comes painted in nice neutral gray. 100% pleased with the quality of this product as shipped, and worth every penny to have a permanent solution to mount my 12 x 12 umbrella. It is bolted to a “Trex” deck here - I pre drilled the 16 mounting holes to ensure the included high-quality hardware wouldn’t split the “Trex”. Absolutely solid installation - I can tell this would survive gale force winds (with the umbrella retracted of course).

I bought this for coverage on my 9X14 rectangle shaped deck. I bought a steel mounting plate to secure the umbrella directly to the deck. I was able to mount the plate and then attach the umbrella by myself . My deck faces west so I mounted the umbrella on the west side in order to be able to slide it down and tilt it to give shade as the sun sets. Since it is a bit of a windy spot I use bungee cords attached to the center ribs on the right and left to add some increased stability, even though it will handle gusts above 15mph on its own quite well. While a bit pricy, I am very happy with this unit and recommend it to others.
