The real deal. Pyrex flask. Second one I bought. Only slightly higher price than all the knockoff brands with cracks and glass bubbles. I am thinking some of the cheaper products are seconds that we’re supposed to be destroyed. This one is real Pyrex and has no flaws. I use it for brewing so it goes from stove top flame to ice bath, and I can’t risk 2 liters of sticky wort spilling on my stove because I saved a few bucks on a cheap flask.

Product was as described. It IS Pyrex by Corning, made in Germany. No visible flaws. Markings go up to 1800 mL, but it is a 2,000 mL flask. That's just how Pyrex marks it. Not a big deal to me. Great product for a great price. I bought this to replace an off-brand 2,000 mL flask (the one you will get from most homebrew stores) that I broke on the second use. The off-brand flask was full of tiny bubbles and defects. This Pyrex flask is flawless. What you would expect from Pyrex. I was weary of buying this based on other reviews saying it is not actually Pyrex, but I DID receive a legitimate Pyrex flask. Hope this helps.

I use this for starting yeast as a home brewer. I received this in a well packaged box and padding. This is a "real" Pyrex flask (i.e. not some Korean / Chinese knock-off.) Until now, I've only been doing 1 liter yeast starters...boy, what a difference in size! You can get so much more done with a 2 liter flask. It has a nice, flat bottom that works perfectly with my stir plate, and the Scienceware 2" Stir bar . The only thing you have to watch for is not dumping it into your fermentor when you pitch your yeast!

Not really much to say, Pyrex is a very good brand of laboratory glassware and this flask does not disappoint. There are cheaper brands out there but when you do a side-by-side comparison, you see how they are cutting corners.Interestingly, the graduations on the side of the flask only go to 1,800 ml. The flask will hold 2,000 ml but the final 200 ml graduation is not marked. The marked graduations begin at 600 ml and increase in 200 ml intervals to 1,800 ml.My only other comment is the flask is marked as taking a #10 stopper. To me, a #9.5 stopper actually fits better. A #10 stopper fits but when inserted about 75% of it is still above the mouth of the flask. With a #9.5 stopper, about 50% is above the mouth which gives the stopper more surface area in contact with the flask for a better seal. I'm sure others see it differently but this is my preference.

I use this flask for my home brewing yeast starters. The other non-Pyrex flasks I have used are sensitive to shock. They can handle the thermo shock, but if you bump it just wrong they will shatter. This version seems much beefier with thicker glass. I have had no issues with this item after 4 uses. The item is as advertised and it was shipped promptly without any problems(well packaged). The only issue I have, is it is slightly smaller than the 2000ml flasks I have. The total 2000ml volume will take it to nearly the top of the neck, where as the cheaper made 2000ml flasks give more headroom and allow for a larger volume for propagating yeast. I really wish they sold this item in a 3000ml version, which would allow for a full 2000ml starter with enough headroom to avoid blow-off.

Needed a cheap 2L flask for my yeast starters to up my homebrew game. I had bought a cheap one and it barely lasted 2 boils before I managed to crack it somehow just while it was sitting on my counter. This one has worked great for multiple boils, and definitely has more heft. Much more like what I'm used to working with in lab.Pro Tip: If you have coils, get a ceramic or stone tile to help you heat your flask directly on the stove. Even for Pyrex, I'm leery of having direct contact, but with a tile or some such to diffuse heat you can boil and then go directly to an ice bath. Lab hot plates use electric elements as well, so don't let anybody convince you that you HAVE to have a flame burner.

Was sent the wrong item. Contacted Scientific Equipment of Houston through Amazon and they were on the phone with me within minutes. Steven from Scientific Equipment of Houston was very courteous on the phone and offered to send me the correct item free. I accepted and received the flask a few days later. That type of high quality service is rare. The flask works great. I use it for making yeast starters on my stir plate. The bottom of the flask has a very slight crest which is typical in this flask size. The mouth of the flask has a very thick lip and it accepts size 10 stoppers perfectly. The glass has zero bubbles or blemishes as well, something I expect in a pyrex product. The flask itself can be taken from a red hot stove coil to a cold water bath, though I usually let it sit for a few minutes before doing so.

This flask is exactly as advertised for those who seek a flask for its original purchase. It is borosilicate; it is well made; the heavy duty rim will serve you well. For those who read this review I suggest another use, one that came to mind as I was thinking of purchasing a Reidel decanter for a great price. Yup. This is an excellent wine decanter. Good shape. Easy handling. Elegant in an eclectic way. Easy to clean ... heat it on your gas stove if you wish with any cleaner you choose. You'll never be able to do this with a Reidel!
