Unsure of what the negative reviews are about but the tool I received was exactly as advertised. It's not a caliper a machinist would use. Finding a S/S Vernier caliper with imperial gradations is very hard to find. The markings are precise and heavily stamped into the frame so as not to wear away in time. It's straight, square and the movement is smooth. Best of all, it's 100% stainless steel so rust won't be a concern. I liked it so well I ordered a 2nd as a backup.

Basically a piece of junk, not even going to bother returning it, might just keep it around as a back scratcher.

QUALITY NON DIGITAL VERNIER CALIPER- PROFESSIONAL METRIC -IMPERIAL MEASURING SYSTEM TOOLS FOR INSIDE, OUTSIDE, DEPTH & STEP MEASUREMENTS (STAINLESS STEEL BODY). Brand: ASSORTSRough estimates from an old-school product. This vernier caliper is old-school. No dial or digital display, and anything less than 1/16 inch is strictly guesswork. It is all-stainless-steel construction, and the gradations (not graduations) are (laser?) etched into the stainless steel, so they will not wear off. The measuring surfaces, being stainless steel, will not wear down and give you false readings. It is not precise enough for a machine shop needing more gradations for more exact readings. It is not a small plastic disposable item for the shirt pocket, to be used by doctors, etc. to roughly measure tumors, blocked arteries, or enlarged hearts, etc.. It is made for ordinary folks to use around the house, -to measure the width of round items like pipes and tubes, -something difficult to do with a flat ruler, unless you have a cut end to work with. To make it easier to read, the movable section should have the markings on a sharp edge to make them easier to match up.Since you cannot see through the top section, -to aid in reading the measurement, small markings should be added where you can see them, like 1/8; 1/4; 1/2; 3/4 on the lower ruler section. Unfortunately, the markings on the moveable section are not accurate. The leftmost marking does not sit on zero; the eight 1/16 inch markings on the moveable section actually measure a total of 7/16 inch, and the ten millimeter markings on the moveable section actually measure a total of nine millimeters. Another complaint that I have, is that the tightness nut needs Loctite or some other method of keeping it from coming loose and becoming lost. Perhaps the screw should have been made longer, and peened at the end, to capture the nut if it becomes loose. Even better, a longer screw with a groove for a metal "C" clip, could be used. There is no country of origin printed on the product, but it is made by Assorts Machine Tools, in Delhi, India.Note to the manufacturer: The case label should not have two L’s in “caliper”.Two Amazon Stars for this QUALITY NON DIGITAL VERNIER CALIPER-PROFESSIONAL METRIC-IMPERIAL MEASURING SYSTEM TOOL.
