Exactly what I needed. Arrived in a short amount of time. I needed it to replace an original from Radio Shack just like it, so I know exactly how it works.

I. Loved the one I had but it kept saying like line error. So I bought this one from Amazon but not get it to work right so I sent it back. Don't know whatwas wrong with it.

Bought at RS store 43-2903. Only had 2 months but works fine so far. Mine is next to a corded phone and under a table lamp that's usually on and makes the display readable, so the weak backlight is not a problem for me. No configuration needed. Not using the scrollback-and-call feature (using the one on our cordless handset for that) so I can't comment on that.EDIT: Two more months later I stopped using it. I had to replace the 4 AA batteries every 1-2 months, and the display faded, just as others reported. Since early 2011 I've been using two of the Fans-tel units instead and they work fine, but require AC power.

I am in the process of replacing this caller ID. You can barely read the screen to know who is calling. Waste of money. I had a feeling I would be wasting money when I bought a radio shack brand.

I read the only review of this caller id, and can only hope that the problem with the screen does not happen to me. As far as the unit itself, I could not be more happy. For less than $20.00 to have such a great functioning phone tool, Why does anybody complain? Try it... You will like it! Just read and follow the directions. I read complaint after complaint on a GOOGLE search. Each one had a simple resolution clearly stated in the instructions. I know that you are smarter than all of 'those' people. I am going to buy 2 more. Guess lots of people will be sure that I am psychotic. Go figure!Good Luck. Chris

The device was easy to install and the instructions were fairly clear. We purchased this item primarily for its large display numbers. However, the visibility of the numbers is extremely poor and no where near that shown in the item photo. The screen is "backlit" by a light on one side which energizes during a call or upon button pressing. The light increases number legibility somewhat but it is still rather poor. I will return this item and look for a product with better number visibility.

I've had this unit for 4 months and just tossed it in the trash. The display is so washed out that, unless the room is dark, you can't read the number.
