Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the RAK contour gauge, or as I like to call it, "The Pin Art Toy for Grown-Ups Who Actually Need to Get Work Done." Remember those pin impression toys from the 90s? This is like that, but instead of making impressions of your face, you can actually measure things! Adult responsibilities have never been so entertaining!First off, this 10-inch beauty is more accurate than my mother-in-law's criticism of my home improvements. The "pins" (or more accurately, thin plates) slide smoother than my excuses for why the bathroom remodel is taking so long. And that locking mechanism? Tighter than my budget after buying all these home improvement tools!### Pros:- Perfect for copying irregular shapes (like that weird crown molding the previous homeowner installed while presumably blindfolded)- Locking mechanism actually works (unlike my promises to "finish the project this weekend")- Great for entertaining yourself during breaks (I may have spent 20 minutes making impressions of various household items)- Doubles as a conversation piece ("Why yes, this IS a professional tool, not a fancy back scratcher!")The real magic happens when you're trying to cut around pipes or fit flooring around door frames. It's like having a photographic memory for shapes, except you don't have to remember anything because it's literally right there in front of you!Pro tip: If your significant other catches you making impressions of random objects instead of actually working on the project, just claim you're "calibrating the instrument." Works every time!I've used this tool for everything from laying tile to trimming around pipes to creating a weirdly accurate profile of my sleeping cat (don't judge me, I got bored during a break). The accuracy is impressive, and the plates hold their position better than I hold my New Year's resolutions. And can we talk about the durability? I've dropped this thing more times than I've dropped hints about needing a new power tool, and it still works perfectly. The plastic is sturdy, the plates are still straight (unlike my first attempt at installing baseboards), and the lock still... well, locks.Bottom line: If you've ever wanted to feel like a professional craftsman while secretly playing with what amounts to a sophisticated toy, this is your tool. It's precise enough for serious work but fun enough to make you look forward to those weird-shaped cutting jobs that usually make you question your life choices.Warning: May cause unexpected bursts of measuring random objects around your house and showing off your "perfect contour captures" to people who are trying really hard to look interested.

Product is okay, the smoothness is bad, and accuracy is not great because the adjustments are either too tight or too loose

Great tool. My husband found very useful cutting vinyl flooring to fit like a glove.

I bought this tool for my husband for Father's Day and he looked really disappointed. I think I like this tool more than him. Oh well, still a really cool tool.

Have not seriously used this yet. But have been practicing (playing) with it on drawing difficult angles and shapes.

This is a great little gadget. Not something I will use often however when needed worth its weight in gold. Easy locking device which work effectively and can be operated with one hand. Great for wood working template and when tiling curved areas. Well worth the money.

I bought this gauge after reading a review off a reputable website. Unfortunately I am very disappointed with this gauge and will most definitely be returning it. First and foremost, the gauge only has a useable throat depth of a bout 1-1/2" inch meaning only shallow, inline copes can be duplicated. Anything that steps or is deeper than 1-1/2" is unreadable. Frankly, it renders this tool pointless at $70 since a piece of cardboard work better. Secondly, the locks are not only not tight enough to firmly hold the fingers in place, theres no tension adjustment to keep the gauge tight as the plastics wear out. Extreme poor design for an expensive, top rated gauge.Since I really wanted to use this on vertical joints, I searched for a better product. Attached it a picture of a competitor that cost half as much for 2 gauge instead of one (both with a 3" working throat and locks that actually work) out-performing the RAK. The given contour is just as accurate but unlike the RAK, the competing gauge actually makes it all the way into the corner. You think that this competitor is comparably expensive, but its not. It in fact not only cost 50% of the RAK, but comes with a second 5" gauge.

The contour tool was everything I wanted except for its length. I would like one twice the length.
