These were purchased for a magnetic sand sensory box. They are really sturdy, and my 1-year-old granddaughter can hold onto them well, but I wish the "indentions" were more prominent. Depending on the color and type of material you are using this with, it's not easy to see the pattern. Overall - it is a well-made item and I can see it being great with Play-Doh, and for that matter NOT having deep indentions would be a benefit to the cleaning of them.

This may be harder for 1 year olds being that they are working on motor skills and they just like to bang them on the table. I'd say 2 years and up.. they love them
