Some Background: This Peterson model receiver/transmitter has been used for 9-10 years to control a propane gas Vermont Castings Stove. The Vermont Stove dealer sold me the first receiver/transmitter when the Vermont Stove was purchased. This receiver/transmitter is sold as a set: a remote (1) and a receiver box (2) which is connnected to the stove underneath. I did not feel confident, since it is propane/gas stove to install this so I had an HVAC local company come to install. I'm hoping someone from the manufacturer will read this review and improve the lifespan of the product. My review would be a 5 star if the product lasted longer when compared to the price.Pros: The remote is easy to understand and sends a signal to the receiver. My remote is on the wall opposite of the receiver and looks like a small thermostat. You don't have to install the remote on the wall. It can be placed on a table etc. in the room (and I have tested that) and you do have the option of turning the stove on and off when you want heat/a flame instead of having the auto feature control the heat. The receiver, which is connected to the stove, has to be "programmed" to recognize the code that the thermostat remote sends and that is easy to do and the instructions are easy to follow. The pair work very well (until they don't). As stated previously, my rating would be a 5 star if the durability was there. The product works nicely when operational and I have not found a suitable replacement.Cons: The worst drawback to this receiver/transmitter is the durability when compared to the price. Since my dealer had no other alternative for the Vermont Stove, I decided to replace the receiver/transmitter. There is a temperature "drift" of about 2 degrees up and down. For example, if the stove is set to maintain a temperature of 68 degrees, it will be 66 degrees before the remote sends the signal to turn the stove on. Likewise, the remote will not send a signal to turn the stove off until the room is about 70 degrees. WARNING: If you leave a gas type stove or other appliance operated by this remote, in the remote position and this product fails, and no one is at home to turn the heat off, such as in a vacation home, it could potentially cause a fire--the heat will just continue to build. When I leave for any extended time, I turn the remote and the receiver off so that the stove does not operate by itself, just to be on safe side. In my opionion, there should be a mechanism that "kills" the signals of both if either are not working properly.Bottom Line: Since I have replaced this about every 2-3 years, I will probably buy one and have it replaced the next time before the remote goes out. That way you can at least control when you don't have heat.

The remote that came with the logs was just on or off. This one sets temperature and it has been great.

Ordered this item on January 7 and received lt a day later. Installed it and receiver Worked just fine but only with the old box. emailed the company almost 3 weeks ago about the box not working and have not heard from them. I could have just ordered the receiver for a lot less money. But I wanted the box in case the old one failed at some point. I feel like they should have at least answered My email.
