I have a supermarket about two miles from the house, and often, I jump in the car to go there. Most of those shopping trips are to pick up a few ingredients needed for that evening’s meal. I’ve thought about taking my bike for the trip but didn’t have a way of carrying loaded shopping bags on the return trip. This rear bike rack and basket is my solution.Putting together the rack and basket wasn’t necessarily hard; I’d never done it before. With its curved upward section on the rack’s front rather than its back, this bike rack is different than others I’ve seen. And, despite being clearly shown as intended in the assembly instructions, I tried to put it together like the bike racks I was familiar with. As it worked out, I put it together backward only to realize that I did so when connecting the rack to the mounting holes on the bike’s rear fork. There was no place to attach those support extensions to the rack afterward. That’s when I knew I’d done something wrong.Taking the rack apart, reassembling, and then doing it a third time due to needed adjustments and additional errors took about three hours. Someone who knew what they were doing could have assembled it in less than a third of that time. Fortunately, it was a nice day, I had the time, and it was a fun project. Fortunately, I hadn’t tightened any bolts and nuts, so none of the wrongly assembled pieces were damaged or marked up.I did make one assembly change. The rods that connect the rack to the rear fork interfered with the rear brake cable. Reversing them avoided that cable but required attaching them to the inside of the treaded attachment holes on the fork. It was impossible to get the Allen wrench inside the confines of the fork, so I had to screw the rod attachment bolts in by hand and use needle-nose pliers to tighten them. It worked, but I scratched the bolt heads a bit. Luckily, Fitense included extra hardware in their bike rack and basket kit.Despite the difficulties, this turned out to be a nice-looking bike rack that dresses up my bike. Its basket, which can be folded flat and springs open for use, is innovative. The rack and basket kit included a bag liner that can be used as a shopping bag, a waterproof cover, and an elasticized cargo net. The three items make securing and protecting items of almost any shape possible. Although the rack’s carrying weight is restricted to 60 pounds, I can’t see myself ever carrying loads close to that weight.Seeing how well Fitense’s bike rack/basket looks and fits made me proud to brag that I assembled and mounted it myself.

This basket is nicely made and looks like it can stand the elements. Whether it can hold up under use, I can't yet say. I haven't been able to test drive-ride the basket and its accessories yet because any adjustments the basket permits (there are quite a few) still won't allow it to connect to the configuration of the 26" foldable bike I have. I have been looking for a couple of small metal plates that I think will solve the problem, but no luck yet. I may wind up fabricating some first. I do think I could force it to fit by bending the basket supports, but I don't want to risk that at this point, and I have plenty of time to wait as I recover from recent spinal surgery. Also, I don't want to possibly interfere with proper seating of the insert. It shouldn't impact the cover. This is in no way the fault of product or the manufacturing; it is purely a case of my need being a few clicks outside the range planned...that's why the one-star reduction. I'll update later. The insert and cover are also substantial and look like they will respectively hold water and repel it. Because I haven't been able to test them out for staying put, wear, water tightness, and the like, I merely loaded the insert up with various things and put the cover on to see how the contents hold up and stay dry sitting on an outdoor table in the rain, wind, and snow. Not exactly like circumstances to riding, but good enough in a pinch. I can say that the accessories did their jobs. The real world awaits.

I wasn't able to make this fit on my own bike because it lacked the proper mounting holes. Pay attention to that aspect of the product description pictures before ordering! That's not the seller's fault at all though. The rear fork version is going to be more likely to fit a larger variety of bicycles than the rear axle version. Before I realized it wouldn't fit my bike, I took the pieces out of the box (they were all well-packaged to prevent damage, and there were no missing parts). The instruction manual is probalby the weakest aspect of this rack/basket. There are some pictures, but it's really not the most comprehensive or easy to follow set of instructions. If your bike has all the correct mounting holes, you will be able to figure it out, but it's going to take a little bit of puzzling over, and maybe some trial and error, to understand how it goes together. The tubular aluminum frame for the rack is very lightweight. Almost worryingly lightweight. When the pieces are assembled together and to the bike's frame, it's going to be pretty rigid and reasonably strong. But I'd take the manufacturer's recommendations for weight limits seriously. It should be fine for a load of groceries -- basically whatever you can fit into the basket from the grocery store shouldn't be a problem. But if you thought you might want to also add a fully-laden pair of pannier bags on the rack, be careful.I like the design of the pop-up basket. It feels pretty sturdy, and it should hold up to reasonable loads. The metal pieces are going to be noisier than a solid-framed basket over bumps, but then again most people are not likely to be doing grocery runs with your bike over rough terrain.4/5 stars. I'm reasonably happy with the quality and functionality of this rack/basket, and I'm disappointed that I won't be able to use it with my own bike. I do plan on installing it on another bike that a family member owns, so I'll update my review if I have any additional insights after that. I think the value is pretty good for a rack/basket combo, so if you are sure it will fit your bike and you are ready for the challenge of installing it, I recommend it.
