If you believe a description that states that this microscope enlarges 1000 times, don't. It is a toy and works not better than a magnifying glass. I tried to teach a 4th grader plant cells, but you can't see any organels in this microscope. It would be possible if it enlarged 1000 times.

I'll keep this short since plenty of people have gone into detail about how cool this thing is. This is a GREAT way to get your kids interested in science. Small and portable with a lanyard to take out into the world! All the good reviews are accurate.

Oh we have had so much fun with this since giving it to our daughter for her birthday! We are fortunate to live in an area with lots of natures so we always go on our walks strapped with binoculars and now this awesome handiscope as I like to call it haha. Love that it comes already with some slides to jumpstart curiosity and it is very easy interface to navigate on the screen. I Love that you can take pictures and this came with every part you need to really enjoy everything. Very well thought out, well constructed, and everything works and continues to work. Not bad for something nearly half the price as the same kind of item I see promoted on social media.

This microscope is great for kids. Self contained with a bright light and bright screen allows two or more to observe at the same time, and the images recorded to the included 32gb micro sd card look good.It includes a few prepared slides which prove interesting. The magnification is 18x - 0.5mm graduations on a ruler show up as 9mm on the display - so the claimed 1000x magnification must be assuming you view the saved images and blow them up 50x, and they aren’t high enough resolution to have a reasonable quality. So forget viewing cells or even very large microbes - this is good for seeing the weave on textiles, or the dots printers make on paper, but not good for biology.Despite this it has a slot for slides and holds them securely so it can be moved around without the slide moving. This is useful for back lighting the slide with an external light source. The internal light source is adjustable in brightness as well.Once capture the images can be viewed onscreen as well. The focus control can focus the camera to within 10mm of the lens, and out past infinity, so it can be used as a zoom camera, capturing distant objects. It includes a little tripod with 1/4” mount and a lanyard, as well as a few sample slides.

After I read the instructions and set up and charged this digital microscope I tried out the various slides that were included with it and was initially going to give it a low rating. I then read some of the reviews about people taking the bottom off and kids going around looking at all kinds of stuff around the house. I tried that and it is indeed a whole lot more fun than I thought. I was initially thinking of it as a cheap substitute for a real microscope. It really doesn't function well as a real microscope. It's very difficult to get the slides into the correct position and while the magnification works, the focal point shifts around as you turn the focus ring if you have a slide set into it. Quite frustrating and difficult to use in the way a real microscope works. The instructions are terrible, making it that much more difficult to figure out how to make it work and how much fun is really is. I got it for my 8-year-old grandson to try out and I've spent some time with him working with it and he's now going around the house having a great deal of fun looking at the carpet, the dirt on the floor, etc etc etc. Anyway if you get this understanding that it really doesn't work very well as a conventional microscope but is a great fun toy and a real learning experience to see what is around the house when it's magnified a lot. It works great for that. I didn't try the video but I did try taking pictures with it and it takes acceptable photos.

This is the best microscope for the money I have seen yet. I am constantly looking for something I can teach my daughter on and take with me gold prospecting as well. This microscope does an awesome job. Up to 1000x magnification. It is called a "Toy" but I can use it on real prospecting trips. You can see the photos of tiny specs of real gold at about 100x magnification. You can see all the finest details on the gold nuggets. The first image was taken with the microscope itself and the second photo I took with my phone looking at the display. This is a really great deal at one of the lowest prices I have seen. Especially considering its functions and quality. You get a tripod, 32GB SD Card, USB adapter, microscope, lanyard, small tools and slides. I have paid much more for much less. And this is one of the best functioning devices I have used. It takes video and photos at the press of a button. My daughter and I go around the house finding things we can magnify. I will have to buy a set of slides for this now. By the way, you can remove the bottom so you can use normal slides as well. And the focus works great. My only complaint is that I cannot see the engravings on the buttons very well but a black marker fixes that quick. Paint over, wipe off the excess and there you go.
