I priced out custom lids by some online companies and was price shocked. I was happy to come across this kit by Red Sea. The price was what I wanted to spend. This is a DIY kit and has all the materials to put it together. Red Sea also offers extra parts for customization. I bought an extra bag of zig zag pieces. The kit comes with only 4 of hangers. I wish I bought some extra but I made the 4 work. With some careful measurements it fits perfectly flat. I used a dermal tool with a cut off wheel to cut the rails. The used some small files to debur the cuts. When assembling the frame I used duct tape to keep it secure to my work surface. This also helps with installing the netting. The finished product sits flush and accentuates my rimless tank. I love it.

First off, I do not have a red sea and I bought this off of BRS. I have some no name 24 by 24 cube. Using some God given intelligence, I managed to cut relatively precise pieces for my tank. No it will not be factory perfect and no you don't need a table saw. That being said it will look pretty good to you and really good to anyone who is just looking at the tank. I literally bought a 5 dollar saw from HD and it worked fine BUT you should use clamps....they will make things infinitely easier and better. The netting is not great but it works. Anyone who is having it tear is likely pulling it too tight. THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE A TIGHT FIT. If you want that you'll need to by one custom made and shove out 150-200 bucks depending on the size of the tank. This is a DIY kit, do not blame Red Sea for your own incompetence. The aluminum profiles are very nice and sleek. Ill post a pic of my screen once I get home.

It is great and much easier to assemble than I thought. Get a saw with a miter box on here to help!

This kit is designed to fit Red Sea tanks, big and small, so there is plenty of cutting and fitting... I have a fully equipped automotive shop, so I have all the proper tools, but cutting aluminum pieces leaves bare edges that need to be cleaned up and they will never look as neat as they would have if they had come from the factory as a kit. Next, the netting is flimsy and fragile, so some strands will be broken just from the force of pressing/rolling the rubber strip into the track — which brings me to the next problem. On a small tank these covers require lots or right angles over short distances. The roller won’t get all the way into all the resulting corners, so you’ll have to find other tools to secure the strip in those areas. Even when the strip snaps into place there are sections where it is prone to gradually release. I’m a fairly fit guy who weighs well over two hundred pounds, and I applied as much weight as I could to the roller moving back and forth over stubborn sections and a few simply would not hold. I eventually tacked the loose spots with an epoxy adhesive which will hold everything in place. I spent over 90 minutes on this simple exercise, mostly trying to fully secure the strip. It’s done now, and it looks okay to those without a critical eye, but I would never buy this product again, and I would strongly recommend against others buying it. If you spent a lot of money on your tank and the animals in it, have a quality cover built. It may take a couple months to get the cover, but you won’t waste an hour or three of your time getting frustrated, and you won’t end up with something that looks shoddy and home-made.

Says it can fit a Nano but you need a strong saw to cut these metal bars. I should have listened to the reviews

I have tried a couple other DIY lid kits and they were very "clunky". One you cut and measure out your required lengths the actual assembly of the lid and mesh are so simple. The kit also comes with all the required tools whereas others do not! VERY Important because without the proper tools there are additional trips/money that you need to do before you complete!
