People wrote it hurt their ears it was so loud. Really? Not me. I tested it as I planned on using it as an emergency whistle on our five acres. I stood in the front of the house for the test. My husband closed the doors. He could see me blow it and he heard NOTHING. He knew I blew it because he watched me. I blew harder. He heard nothing. Waste of money for me.

REVISED Review! I purchased it to alert the many bears living near me and I thought it was not loud enough. My dog bolted after a bear, I had it on my neck, blew really hard and the bear ran away. I was quite a sight to see running after the bear. My dog came home shortly after with a big grin and slept most of the day.

I had bought another whistle and it was sooo hard to blow, and it wasn't very loud. We have alot of coyotes around our property and a 4 1/2 pound yorkie, and have the whistle and a small mace on a string around our necks, just in case. Works great.

This is a great little whistle for camping, kids, sports, etc. The great feature about this is the aluminum build and the lack of any moving parts. it is loud and is a great camping tool / hiking tool. I like how I can just attach it to my pack and I do not have to worry about it being crushed or damaged while travelling. Obviously it is very robust and it works great. All in all a very nice all metal whistle that you can take anywhere and use without worrying about it getting damaged or worn out on your pocket with keys, etc. It might get scratched a little but it will still work!

As an emergency/lifeguard whistle, this cannot be beat. It is a strong single piece of aluminum with no balls or moving parts to fail. It can be incredibly loud and at less than half a small breath was already loud enough to hurt ears.I have not tried it at full blast but I am certain it would alert people for an incredible distance. This being the case, I ***really*** suggest it for emergency use and definitely not as a kid's toy.I will be using this as an emergency whistle for when we SCUBA dive as at the surface it could easily alert a boat to your location over engine noise, etc. We will also be taking these in emergency packs when we go hiking or camping.They are very reasonably priced for the quality and long-lasting durability. One thing to note, the red of the whistle is much more red than the orangish red shown in the pictures here.

This whistle can be attached to your key ring and is small and light enough that it doesn't add much bulk. The whistle measures 2.25" long by 5/8" wide by 5/16" deep. It also comes with a red cord lanyard with 37 inches of cord (in a circle) with a metal clip to attach the whistle. Even a small puff on the whistle creates a loud sound that echoed and caught people's attention when I tested it. I keep it on my keychain to used to draw attention if I feel threatened (though I never have) or draw attention if I'm injured (which I did once with an inferior whistle, and it didn't work). This whistle gives me much more confidence that it will draw attention. The sound also seems to be directed away from the user, so it didn't hurt my ears like I expected even though it was loud. I also tested this while standing about 100 yards from someone who didn't know I was going to blow it, and this usually oblivious person looked up towards me when I blew the whistle. I would highly recommend this whistle.

Outstanding product. Well manufactured, and the anodized color is bright and the weight is lite. I love my red whistle just wished that had a nice orange color as well!
