I am a homeowner interested in moisture meter to check my hardwood floors and sub floors because I have a minor cupping problem. The R6018 meter appears to be malfunctioning right out the box. I installed the batteries turned it on and selected the pin mode for wood (stationary wood symbol). The meter read 0% as it should. The meter never displayed anything but a (0%). I cycled the power and scrolled through the mode selector and tried again. With the meter reading zero percent I moved it closer to the floor and it gave a readout of 5.9 on the screen before the pins even touched the wood floor. With both pins touching the floor a 5.9 reading was now displayed. I took a second reading which was also 5.9.After the two readings the meter returned to a zero reading and locked up at a zero reading. No matter how many times I tried to take another pin reading, the display was locked at zero. No more pin readings at all. Locked up at 0%. Very frustrating. Cycled the power and tried the passive mode which worked every time I moved it but was much higher than the original readings in the pin mode (10.8).I was a Maintenance technician for 15 years and have used meters of all kinds. This meter does not work as it should. So sorry I bought it. Nothing but a waste of my time, but did the review to help others out there.Sincerely, Mike B, Chicago

After wasting a lot of time in attempts to activate it, I went to get another battery and... it worked fine. I prefer "battery not included" then the frustration of a cheap, dead battery. Upsetting.

When you relay on accuracy for a business...you would at least expect consistent readings. This thing is all over the boards when testing the same thing over and over. Drastic variations sums this product is inconsistent and not accurate.
