Muffler was used upright like a stack and broke around the input after 2 months of use. Weleded ot up and has been holding fine since.

Muffler works great! It fit right on the elbow and I used the old clamp from the old muffler. As some have said, the paint does tend to go away pretty quickly. I'm just going to re-paint it with some high-temp paint so it doesn't rust. If this bothers you, I would suggest paying more for a different muffler. But, so far as sound, it works great, and with a little bit of paint that I already have on hand, I'll use the money I saved to put toward gas, or something else.If you want a muffler, this is a great choice. If you want a PRETTY muffler long-term, pay more or buy paint.

This is a great, and much cheaper, alternative to the Cub Cadet replacement that costs 3-4 times more than this. I have a Cub Cadet 1250, whose muffler exhausts out the front. I was able to use this instead, but had to do a little sheet metal modification to the right sound shield. Alternatively, if you have a 1250, you could just not use the sound shield.

Muffler was purchased for an ariens HT16 and I believe the description de noted it as a direct replacement,....If it did this is not true.It would not fit my Kohler 14 HP without modification, and therefore is why I havent installed the Muffler yet.Overall knowing this I may have bought it anyway, but for some I'm sure this would cause a return.The Muffler itself seems of good construction and is smaller than most stock mufflers, it was supposed to replace.

I've been looking for replacements for the smaller mufflers i have on several 14/15/16 hp garden tractors - originally they came equipped with a boxy muffler that probably was pretty good, but no longer available... and would cost an arm & a leg, I'm sure.... the inlet on this measures 1 3/8", so fits on a 1 1/2" od exhaust pipe upright, securely fastened with a 1 1/2" muffler clamp - which costs all of $1.46 at the auto parts store. It's pretty light in weight, so I have no concern about breaking the exhaust port on the engine ( something I heard was a concern from another muff review somewhere..)Sound wise, way better than the little 'pancake' muffs - those seem to have a sharp edge, and pretty loud. This would benefit from more internal packing / baffling, I'm sure, but waaaay quieter than another reviewer here would lead you to believe... but hey! Maybe I'm deaf.... YMMV.....(:And yes, the paint did burn off the lower half in the first few minutes of operation - ugh! what a smell!! - but big deal... do you want functionality or beauty? Get a can of VHT paint if it bugs you! This isn't a $75 muff!For the price, unbeatable!
