These are more novelty than they are permanently useful. Don’t get me wrong, you can get some use out of these, but I don’t think they have the feel of your favorite go-to tools. I had originally wanted this for the chicken (I don’t know why, but I really like cartoon type chickens), and then saw the small pastry brush in the jar and thought it’d be absolutely great for my Sunday morning chocolate croissant, to give it an egg wash before I placed it in the oven. Sadly, I was mistaken. First off, the chicken jar with the spoon is awkward to use. It measures out a half tsp (though it doesn’t say it anywhere - I measured it out), and though the jar has a handy little leveling / scraping bar, the lid is kind of in the way. And the pastry brush in the jar, unfortunately, is not delicate enough for a pastry. It’s much better for basting meat or something like that, but if you really wanted to use it for that, I think you’d need a bigger jar. It’s meant for things that are much tougher than a proofed pastry ready for baking. The glass jars are sturdy, the plastic on the chicken and lid is average grade, and the silicone brush (again, with this one too, the lid is in the way making it awkward) is not a pastry brush. Also, they are not the same colors, even though it is shown that both jars accessories are yellow. The chicken jar stuff is yellow, but the pastry jar stuff is beige. Overall, cute, but something that will end up in a give away pile or garage sale (for me, anyway).

This set is a nice gift for cooks. The container and brush for oil is easy to use and a convenient way to keep oil handy. The salt cellar is nice with a spoon at the ready.
