This is not a complaint about the product. It is just cheaply made. (I knew that when I bought it) The generator produces 12 volts DC or 25 volts DC depending on how you hook up your lights. It is more of a nostalgia piece than an efficient light package. It looks nice and shiny but the design is mainly for old style bicycles that used to use non-battery lighting. The lights work fine on battery but the generator mount does not properly lock in place. The headlight is fairly bright for incandescent lighting and you get spare bulbs inside the headlight. As a bonus you get both a dim and a high beam or you can run both together. Ground is achieved by a piercing screw located on the mounting hardware. But here is the actual bonus. These lights never need batteries. The drawback is that the lights go out when you stop. There is some drag from the generator but the faster you pedal the less you feel it. You will need to make your own mount for the generator since the included one will not stay in place. Also remember that the headlight is NOT sealed. If it sits in the rain it will rust and gather moisture. Clear tape will keep it sealed. These generators do produce 12 or 25 volts so on an electric bike they are ideal. Mine is a gas powered one so I will never feel the drag. When installed and maintained properly they will never die and you can power other 12 volt lights as well at the original ones. Just remember the 5.5 watt limitation. Having said all of that let me just say that I bought this kit because I prefer the generator type of light. And yes I will be buying another one for my other bicycle.
