The hardest part of spinniing for me is consistency, that is, keeping a consistent thickness of the yarn. It's a skill that takes time and practice, but you can make things easier on yourself, and this roving is a good way to start. Roving is already pulled to a uniform thickness, unlike batts, and that means you are starting out ahead of the game. If you keep a consistent tension on the yarn and a steady flowing motion with your arm, you'll quickly start seeing a consistent yarn develop. The merino wool is 'grabby' enough that it gives a nice feedback to you to help you find that sweet spot where you get enough twists to form a good yarn, without over twisting or blobbing.Ironically, once you master spinning a consistent thickness, many spinners then go back to 'art' yarns, chunky and blobby on purpose!A pound of roving goes a long way and you'll wind up with a couple of good skeins of yarn, even if you ply it.Definately a good value.

This “Candy Floss Pink” color is even nicer than I had expected. It is not a baby pink color but a more sophisticated and subtle pink. The Merino wool roving is soft and nicely brushed and prepared to make spinning easier. Revolution Fibers has a great reputation and I really like that this wool is ethically sourced. They also stated on their label that the wool is dyed conforming to Oeko Tex 100 standard which means that it is has been independently tested for harmful substances and is considered 100% safe. It always assures me when I see a textile company submit their products to that high standard.

Merino Wool Combed Top | 1 lb Premium Wool Roving | 22 Micron, Best Merino Wool for Spinning, Tapestry, Needle Felting, Big Yarn Roving and Wall Hangings (Candy Floss Pink)A pound is quite a lot of wool! It seems to be very nice quality, but I'm uncertain if it's actually merino wool. Pretty color too. Soft and easy to work with.

A pound of wool is a lot! This is well cleaned and combed. The black is a nice black color, I can blend it with any of my other blacks and it will match just fine. While it comes drafted into one long length, it tears easily into very short bits. This is not soft like other Merino wools I've used. But it is softer than other non-Merino wools. Maybe it's just a coarser kind of Merino. I feel like the listing just used all the words because it can't be combed tops AND core roving. It felts well enough....which isn't like Merino, either. Most Merinos need to be combined with some other kind of wool because they are *too* soft. This felts well with both large and small needles able to catch the fibers.I would use this for a top coat, it felts smooth enough for that. And the price is good enough that it could be used for core if you needed to.

The quality of this wool is dismal compared to other 100% Merino I have purchased. It’s really thin and just falls apart.
