The fluid shape of the O decanter coordinates beautifully with the popular O tumblers from Riedel. Decanting--pouring the contents of a bottle of wine into a serving container--enhances the appreciation of the wine by increasing its contact with oxygen, basically the same process as swirling wine in a glass to release its bouquet. Decanting allows older as well as young wines to fully open up and "breathe." The deep upward facing well, known as a punt, in the bottom of the O decanter causes the wine to splay when poured in, increasing oxygenation. And, the punt provides a good thumb-hold, making the container easier to grasp, which is why the decanter is nicknamed by designer Maximilian Riedel as the "Thumbs Up."
Riedel's O tumblers neatly sidestep the annoying issue of stem breakage and fit handily into a dishwasher or picnic basket. Unlike the tumblers, which are machine made of lead-free glass, the decanter is hand-blown of leaded crystal. Making a delightful gift for the uninhibited wine drinker, the O decanter pours without dripping, thanks to its gracefully angled lip, and, like the tumblers, feels just plain satisfying to hold in the hand. Bought this to replace one I had bought about 8 years ago that smashed. The design is the same but the quality of the glass is poor in comparison to the previous one I had. Much lighter. There is no weight to it. It came in Riedel packaging so I'm assuming it is genuine but compared to the previous one I had this is really disappointing.

As huge wine lovers, we have an assortment of fancy, elaborate Riedel decanters. I find that although decanting an aged wine helps it open up, I dread having to clean them so I end up not using them. I purchased the Riedel O decanter for my husband as a Father's Day gift, and couldn't be more pleased. It does the job simply and beautifully, and doesn't drip when pouring. And cleanup is a snap! We've been using this decanter almost every time we open a bottle of wine, and leave the Mambo and others as beautiful decorations. I highly recommend it!

Love this. We have 2 others that have a narrow neck and are really wide at the bottom, and they are not very easy to pour from. This is much more compact, and I can easily pour from it.

Beautiful style and excellent quality however the overall size is very small especially for the price. It is not as tall as most of our wine glasses. The brush didn't come with the decanter.

Decanter is well made and beautiful to look at but the shape is not functional. The neck of decanter too wide and the top spout too narrow. If the decanter is filled with wine it would be heavy and there would be a chance of decanter slipping out of hands or dropping. There is not enough of a "V shape" at top to get a good grip. We returned this and purchased a Riedel decanter with wider base and spout.

Um es vorwegzunehmen, dieser Dekanter ist klein, sehr klein. Um stehend die maximale Oberfläche zu erzielen, sollte man nicht mehr als ca. 0,5l einfüllen, den Inhalt einer Flasche von 0,75l nimmt dieser Dekanter aber ebenfalls problemlos auf.Durch die Ausformung des Bodens und des Korpus ist mit diesem kleinen Dekanter bei entsprechend beherztem Einfüllen dennoch eine gute Belüftung des Weines einer ganzen Flasche obigen Volumens erzielbar.Die Verarbeitung ist makellos, die Materialanmutung perfekt, die Handhabung ganz ausgezeichnet ergonomisch und das das Design durchaus puristisch.Nach dem Genuss gehen aufgrund der Form und des vergleichsweise weiten Halses sowohl Reinigung als auch Trocknung vollkommen problemlos von der Hand, Reinigungsperlen oder ähnliches sind nicht erforderlich.Auf einer großen, festlichen Tafel ginge er nach meinem Dafürhalten jedoch aufgrund seiner Größe eher unter, hier könnte man möglicherweise besser zu einer klassischen, dichbauchigen Form oder der Magnum-Variante dieses Modells greifen.Für den legeren Genuss ist dieser puristische Dekanter dafür nach meiner Meinung bestens geeignet und fügt sich aufgrund seiner Form und Größe bestens in einen abendlichen Tisch in ungezwungener Atmosphäre ein, ob nun zum Grillen oder einfach zu einem Glas guten Weines mit etwas Käse und Brot.Fünf Sterne

This is a great little decanter. I emphasize the word "little", though. When it arrived I actually bet my husband that it would not hold an entire bottle of wine - we have wine glasses that look to be the same size as this decanter! Sure enough, he won the bet, but I would probably buy the larger size next time. Even so, I still recommend this one. You can't go wrong with Riedel, and this decanter is so cute and functional - we use it every week.

Perfect size, holds a normal size bottle of wine easily - the shape makes it very easy to handle and pour. A great looking decanter with the quality of Riedel. Love it!
