I agree with what Randy says. He is 100% correct. But I found a way around it. Forget about the dingy piano wire that comes in the package. It’s useless. Instead take a C&F Designfly-Tying-Equipment threader , or any needle threader similar to it , then cut the tube to the length you want, say half an inch, then push the tip of the needle threader through the core. Put some pressure on the threader and it will go right through, to the other end. Then thread your tippet through the tip of the threader and pull the threader back through the tube. Voila. It works

I received this and opened it up and could not figure out how in the hell a person was going to put the tippet through the middle of this. So I looked on utube and the guy showed that there is a wire in the pack with a hole bent in the end of it to thread the tippet through and that made sense. The instructions says absolutely nothing about this piano wire at all. So I looked through the little bag and mine was missing so after arguing with the seller that the package should have a piano wire in it she finally sent me one but at the end of the wire it was not bent in a tiny circle as the guy showed on utube. So I talked to the seller on the phone and she told me that I had to bend that little tiny circle at the end of the piano wire on my own. I told her I haven’t the tool to do this and you can not do this with your hands. Well I went ahead and tried with the smallest pair of pliers I have and threaded it through the indicator and all it did was completely tore the guts out of it, the circle I made as small as it was was way too big and did not work. I don’t know if I need to buy a special tool to bend this piano wire in a small enough circle so as not to tear the middle out of the indicator or not? It looks like it works great on the water from what I seen on utube and it’s a great idea but the directions are terrible for sure and I’m not sure if the wire is supposed to come bent with a tiny circle on the end or not? The seller says it doesn’t but the guy on utube says and showed that it does. ????? Adding to 8-28-23. I decided to give it a true without the wire knowing better but did anyways. I pulled a piece off of the material until I got a piece with no core then I took a ten inch piece of 1x tippet and pushed it through the three inch piece that I had. Okay I got it through with out the wire but it wasn’t easy and the core just happened to be out of that part of the line. So the 1x is through and just as I thought it was moving and the more I moved it the easier it slid back and forth on this thicker line. I just don’t see how this can be a good indicator especially if you build them, I’m not sure on tapered. But people use and like them. And if that core is in the middle of it? I don’t think there’s any way a person get any size tippet through there. In fact you just can’t do it unless you have a tool.
