Product Description

A long-lasting tool that does not harm the chisel handle and is easy on the carvers hand and arm during extensive carving sessions. This is thanks to the synthetic striking surface that will absorb shock before it can get to your arm, and yet transmits the striking force to the tool. Wood handle is comfortable in your hand. The product is manufactured in United states.

The Wood Is Good 12-Ounce Mallet is ideal for use with carving gouges and chisels. Constructed with a solid wood handle and core, the head is surrounded by a shock-absorbing urethane material. It allows you to work longer in comfort, and without causing damage to chisels. The non-marring striking surface also works well for assembling furniture and joints. This 12-ounce mallet has a 2-3/4-inch head diameter.

This is a great mallet. I was a little concerned first because of the high price but it’s absolutely worth it. It has enough weight to drive the chisels without using too much force. The material doesn’t harm the head of the chisel and it’s quieter than other brands. Would highly recommend it.

I'm comparing this to a similarly sized all-wood carver's mallet. There are several pros to this mallet but also a pretty big con, so this may not be for everyone. I have switched back to an all-wood mallet after using this for a while.Pros:- It is more silent than an all-wood mallet.- It's very gentle on your tool handles - they won't mushroom out or otherwise be marred.- It's well built and fits the hand nicely.- It's likely going to last longer than an all-wood mallet. The big con:- The plastic is softer than wood, which makes this more silent and more gentle, but also less effective. If you compare this mallet to an all-wood mallet of similar size and weight, and give your chisel a similar whack with both of them, the all-wood mallet will take a bigger bite. Or to put it differently, I find that you can give very gentle taps with an all-wood mallet and make some very controlled progress, but you have to hit harder with the plastic mallet to make similar progress, which reduces control.

I'm just starting out in wood carving and chiseling and needed a better mallet that came with my set.I love this one. It's comfortable in my hand, it's a nice weight, and it's built well.

I needed a decent mallet for leather work I do. The Wood Is Good mallet is pretty nice. Excellent workmanship and comfortable to use. The price is about right, maybe slightly high for a wood handle poly mallet but overall reasonable. If you're looking for a good no nonsense poly mallet for leather stamping etc this one will get the job done at a good price.

A must have for any woodworker. This is my go to mallet for any hand tool work or moving tightly fitted boards into place for assembly. The handle is very comfortable and it's balanced very well. Such a great investment for my shop, I will use this bad boy till it crumbles (if it ever does).

Simply awesome and you can beat your wife with it when she annoys you while you're trying to work. It's got a great handle and feel to it. I usually don't lose my grip with this thing until about the third or fourth time I hit her with it, and that's most likely due to my bad wrist than it is the handle.Serious, great hammer. Get it.

I bought my first Wood-is-Good mallet more than twenty years ago. While separated from it in a distant place, I really missed it, so I bought another. The urethane head has exactly the right compliance, giving it the ability to transfer momentum to the chisel without too much shock. (If you have a degree in engineering, you will understand the value of damping... the really high frequencies in the impulse response are filtered out). For the rest of you non-engineer-geeks, you get a smooth transfer of "power" from the mallet to the chisel, and you won't beat the daylights out of your chisel handle. The feel and balance are perfect. Every woodworker should own one of these.

Recently took up woodcharving. My first project was to make a raised letter "welcome" sign to hang by our pool. Bought some rather nice chisels and purchased this mallet from Amazon... WOW. I am a beginner... but the feel on this baby is great. Fits my hand perfectly and the weight (12 oz) is ideal. You can tap out intricate parts or give it a good smash to remove a large section. The 12 oz size is perfect!!(HUMMM... same size as a beer... LOL). Glad I went with this one instead of another type. The design of this mallet does not damage the handle on the chisels. If you are in the market for a mallet... this is your best bet!!!
