Creating barley twists, spirals and flutes has always represented a problem for the woodturner. The Robert Sorby Spiralling System (330H) not only overcomes many of these difficulties, but also allows the turner’s imagination to run wild as he/she enters a new field of decoration. Based on the same principle as the texturing tool, it is simple to use even in the hands of a novice - but still comes with instructions and ideas on further use. The built-in rest allows the work to be approached at a variety of angles - graduations on the rest ensure repeatability. The degree of off-set determines the pitch of the spiral. Another variation is introduced with the addition of four different cutters which can also be used for texturing. From these the turner can either produce among other works fine spirals on the stem of a delicate goblet, checkered designs, rope effect twists, heavy patterns on boxes, spindles or candlesticks as well as around the base.

The Sorby H9100 spiral tool is still an unknown quantity to me. I have tried it, tried others, I know how to spiral, but for some reason I feel up to this point I have been building model airplanes, and now I'm in the cockpit of an F-16. The handle is robust, the wheels are sharp, the steel is beefy. You don't present the tool to soft, splinter-prone wood. This is a PRO's TOOL. And there is a lot of 'ceremony' or prep-work before tool meets wood. This IS NOT an everyday tool. BUY IT if you want to get into this niche.

If you are looking for something to add to your wood turning this is great. Quality tools from Sorby! I’m just learning but I’ve turned out a nice platter with textured edges. Quite fun. I recommend it and this seller

I owned a spiraling tool from the "other" English tool maker. The Sorby tool is so much better with a nice assortment of wheels and the wheels are nicely sharpened. I highly recommend the Sorby Spiraling Tool.

This is an unusual tool and it does take practice but the results are very good. Watch the videos on youtube. They are very informative.

This is an excellent tool. Peachtree wood working sent it packed well and fast.

I recently purchased this tool and have to say, it is an awesome tool. As to the negative reviews about the lack of instruction on how to use this tool, there is a YouTube series explaining the proper use. I have watched the videos multiple times and after my third try with the tool I accomplished a beautiful spiral and a pineapple effect on the same piece. As long as you use a close grained hardwood (do not use softwood for it will just tear apart), use the proper lathe speed, and approach at the correct angle, you can get amazing results!

The tool is great, but the instructions were poor. There needs to be a video on how to use it.

This is a good product, takes time learn to use properly the tools and the its versatility.A good improve will be include a DVD teaching the method to use the tools, but without additional cost.
