Screw all the bike standards. $50 for a stupid rear axle. It works. It's a nice product. I hate that it wasn't included with my frame. So screw you too Kona bikes.

this is the updated version. the 12mm diameter is the same all the way down the axle. Amazons picture is out of date.

I researched this item in order to install it on my Cannondale Scalpel 4. The 142 x 12 size seemed applicable and since no info about specific application was offered, and being webactive, I ordered it. I received an 'older' model without the high stress narrow necked shaft, and it does not have the regular recessed shoulder.There are major problems: This item does not cope with the Cannondale recessed axle, it has a coarse thread whereas the Cannondale is a fine metric thread. It is the correct diameter but nothing else fits. I'll be using the Amazon return system, and have confidence in the fact that Amazon satisfy their customers when issues like this arise. Shopping off a website, without tactile check-it-out verification needs this return commitment. I've had many succesful web purchases but this one was a dud. If the return goes well, unlike Eek-Bay, I'll be a return shopper!

The picture shows a narrowed center, but the maxle shipped was not narrowed in the middle. Ended up returning the maxle.
