Superlight with a 25 lbs. rack weight, the solo is our easiest rack to take on and off a vehicle. Out of the box the MonoRail family has the widest carrying capacity of our line up, due to their ability to fit up to a 5” fat bike tire. The solo also has the added versatility of allowing for both 1. 25” and 2” hitches out of the box.

I just got the product but will follow up with a more in depth review later. The assembly process was fairly easy and loading and unloading the bike is a fairly seamless. Due note you want to put the ratched arm on the bike first and take this off last. This allows you to have both hands to ratched down the rear wheel and put on the frame lock when needed. It folds up very compact and sits about 5-6 inches off of the back of my car, note cars have different hitch clearances and how close or how far will depend on these factors or more. This said, installing the hitch does take some doing and it may be best long term to have a socket wrench with extender to remove the hitch bolt for removal of the rack as the tool that comes with it may hit, if equipped, the trailer chain mounts. There is some wiggle while driving but all racks have this no matter how tight you get them. This said, this rack is light for what it is with a huge weight capacity. My car a 2017 Chevy Bolt has a trailer hitch with a 100lb tongue rating. My ebike is 56 lbs so the rack has to be 44 lbs or less to stay within the warrantied limits of the trailer hitch. This rack is rated at 25 lbs so well within the limits of my hitch. So a major bonus here and this cannot be understand as to the importance of staying within tolerances for legal reasons.About the locks, this isn't a high security system and I wouldn't trust my bike on here nor any rack (I've looked at many racks from many manufacturers not just on amazon, nor REI but scouring forums) none are great for leaving your really nice bike long term. If you're stopping in for groceries and are gone for 30 minutes or less or heck an adult beverage sure, this may work. The plastic locks only time will tell, looks like the lock itself is metal but it's covered in plastic. They do sell metal locks for $2 more on the Rocky Mountain website. All of this to say, I will be using their cable lock but also using my own locks on this hitch when parked. Try not to drive with the cable nor any other lock attached as that will likely cause damage to the bike. The rack looks like it will easily handle fat bikes and road bikes. Pretty any standard wheelbase bikes will fit(I know wheel bases vary a lot but shorter bikes like some folding bikes may not fit). The rack when folded up does interfere with bumper mounted radar sensors but sits way below my license plate and rear cameras. To sum up: The rack looks great so far, holds the bike well and makes moving big bikes easy and opens up what options of bikes owners of cars with weak hitches (low tongue weights) have to haul bikes securely and have an OK measure of security when parked for a short time. The rack is easy to use and fairly intuitive. Plus, the blue accents (not a functional feature) are really cool looking and the rack looks clean.

Very nice solo rack. I was weary about putting my $12,000 carbon fibre ebike on it but it works great on my Jetta with a 1” hitch and holds my 52lb ebike with no issues. The front hold down part rubs the section of my fork which isn’t a huge deal. Easy fix to wrap something around the fork or the arm that ratchets down. Would highly recommend it.

Super easy to put together and use. I love the light weight but still plenty strong to carry my full size e-bike. Highly recommended!!

Just a feedback from an assembly point of view for now. The process was fairly easy with only 2 exceptions:* The bolts where already screwed to the load arm end cap with the intention (I assume) of making things easier to identify the bolts to use to fix the cap. Problem is that the bolts where screwed in so tight it deformed the plastic insert and made the cap almost impossible to fit on the arm without the help of an hammer.* The instructions referenced 2 M8x30mm flanged screw to fix the front wheel cup, but instead the kit came with 4 phillips bolts. I believe they screwed into a plastic thread so they appeared to be a proper fit regardless.Other than that, the rack was not overly packaged and appears to be a no no-sense design capable of fitting everything from a road bike to fat bike with 27.5" (although the later is a tight fit), but I still have to try it on the road.

We got off to a Rocky start. (see what I did there?) I didn't need the 2" hitch adapter sleeve installed on my rack. Using the provided, and another quality hex wrench, to remove the sleeve attachment screw only stripped the screw head. The screw was installed at the factory much too tight for the quality of the hardware. Back to Amazon for a $20 easy out stripped screw removal set. This delayed my install by about a week.Assembly was easy enough. I would suggest reading through the entire instruction manual before you start so you can visualize where all the pieces will end up and how the rack will work when fully assembled. Having a large phillips head screwdriver and non-marring plastic hammer handy will be helpful for installing some of the pieces on the rack.I'm another buyer that isn't a fan of the plastic locks, so it looks like I'll be spending another $40 on a pair of metal replacements. Unfortunately, Amazon doesn't offer these locks so you won't be able to buy them when you order your rack.On the plus side, there really is a lot to like about this rack. Installed on a 2011 Ford Escape the lift gate clears the rack in the stowed position with a little room to spare. Back up camera is still usable with the rack in place. Back up warning signal does register the rack so every time you put the vehicle in reverse the back up warning sends out high alert beeps. A small inconvenience. Large frame 29" mountain bike secures well in this rack.

Extremely easy to set up and use from the start. If your hitch is 1.75 you might have to shim the square opening to avoid the hitch from oscillating since the bar was slightly undersize.

I can't give enough praise for this carrier and the company behind it. I researched long and hard looking for a quality one bike carrier that could be used with a 1 1/4" hitch. Hitch was installed on 9/3 with a complimentary install of the carrier. Unfortunately, the assembly and installation of the carrier turned out to be a disaster. The bar that holds the bike was reversed, the pin attaching to the hitch was also installed incorrectly and the carrier rocked so much from side to side, I doubted my ebike would be stable enough on the carrier. Upset? That's not a strong enough word. After reading the instructions (easy to understand), I removed and reversed the bar that holds the bike and tightened the hitch pin. I then emailed RockyMounts to tell of my issues and ask questions. They asked me to take photos of the installed carrier and of the connection to the hitch. When I heard back, it was then that I found out the hitch pin was not only reversed but that the installer didn't put the supplied washers in place on the hitch pin. I was going to go out and buy washers but Sam, at RockyMounts said they would mail them just to be certain of correct size. Received the washers, reversed the pin with new washers installed, tightened and everything is perfect and tight...no movement at all. Customer service is the best! Now for the carrier. Finding a good quality, single bike carrier (again 1 1/4" hitch) was difficult. As my ebike is 47 lbs, it couldn't be just any carrier. I compared this carrier with 2 highly rated brands. One was a 2 bike carrier (didn't want that or the expense) and the other a single which didn't have all the features I wanted (tilt away). Quality, features, ease of use, price, how it looks, compactness......I couldn't be happier. To sum it up, it's a great carrier (which I should have installed myself) and RockyMounts is a great company who cares about their customers. Would definitely buy again. Thank you, Sam!
