The pieces are very sturdy and made from wood. It looks like they are all there, but I haven't put it all together yet. I just tried out a few pieces to see how well they fit. It looks very well made, and the cuts are pretty precise. I can't wait to see it all assembled. I know this will be a bit of a longer project due to the details and the number of pieces. I would put the difficulty at intermediate to advanced. If you've never done 3-D puzzles before, this is not the one to learn with. However, if you have completed a few of these, or if you are a very visual and spatial thinker, then you are going to love this!

So I got this 3D ship puzzle thinking it’d be a fun project for me and my 10-year-old son to work on together… yeah, that didn’t exactly go as planned.First off, this thing is awesome—super detailed and looks amazing once it's all put together. But holy cow, it’s a serious challenge. There are over 600 tiny pieces and some of the steps are pretty intricate. My son helped for maybe the first half-hour before getting bored and handing it off to me. I ended up finishing it solo over the course of a few weeks. The materials are solid, though. The particle board pieces are durable and fit together really nicely. Nothing felt cheap, and it all holds up great once assembled.Bottom line: it’s a really cool and unique puzzle, just definitely made for older kids or adults. If you’re buying it for a younger kid, be ready to take the lead (or just do the whole thing yourself). Still, it made for a fun dad project and the end result looks great in my office.

My husband just finished this puzzle. It’s a little hard for his big hands but he makes it happen! I love how it looks. I just bought him a shelf to display all of his ROKR puzzles!

Easy to build. Very clear instructions. 600+ parts and only 1 partially broke. Looks great. Love the way the cannons move. Would have given it 5 stars but for parts F48 and F49 missing screw holes and F85 and F86 looking nothing like they do in the instruction book, necessitating some creative amendments.

Easy to understand the directions. Clearly marked parts. Used a little gorilla glue for two pieces. The quality is superb. Rigging very lifelike. Great fun with minimal problems. Have and will have more ROKR. Steam engine was a challenging puzzle as well.

There is a lot about this scale model kit on the internet, including good build videos. It isn’t a puzzle, and if you think “puzzle,” you will be doomed from the start. It uses the methodology of advanced wooden ship model construction. Namely, plank on bulkhead. Note the difficulty level indicated on the box. And note the age recommendation. Don’t take the seller's photograph of a young child as an example of the intended builder of this scale model kit.Let's clarify a few other points. This isn’t a barque. The sail and rigging on the aft mast are incorrect for a barque. It is a simple three-masted square rigger. Not that this makes a bit of difference since this isn’t a shipyard model. Finally, 10 hours to build? Yeah, right. This is a great gateway model into advanced wooden ship model building, and the price at the time of this review posting is great. This does not have the sort of realism of traditional ship models, but the burned plywood edges and the thickness of some parts make for a folk charm that will make this model something to be proud of. There are notes on the materials used for the kit in the photographs posted with this review of this scale model kit.In addition to the tools and supplies contained in the box, you will need a hobby knife and a burned-plywood-edge-colored marker. Sprue cutters would be handy for the plastic parts, but a utility knife can be used to cut the sprues. Finish the wood and plastic sprue points with the included sanding materials and touch up with markers or paint as needed. The most critical parts of the construction come early in construction as the bulkheads are secured to the keel. These must be correct, or the rest of the kit will have problems. The second most critical parts of the construction are the hull planks, which are also early in the process.Mounting and rigging the sails will be a killer for modelers with lesser experience. You will need tweezers, tiny clamps, and dots of clear glue in order to assemble the rigging. Do just a bit of rigging each session and take a break. Advanced modelers will supply their own manila cord for the running rigging, which was not tarred on Golden Age ships. You might consider painting the decks their natural wood color because, again, tar and/or paint were not used on decks in these sorts of ships. If you have already done a few plywood tab and slot models, you will be able to take on this model. Just work slowly and take a break if you are puzzled or stressed. (See what I did there?)Great kit. Five stars.
