From music school to home, from recording studio to backstage dressing room, the pocket-sized VT-12 is your ultimate traveling vocal coach. With a variety of built-in exercises and warm-ups for improving your vocal skills, the VT-12 provides real-time analysis of your pitch while you sing so you can visualize your progress. The illuminated pitch meter displays your pitch, and can even detect two singers simultaneously for two-part harmony training in equal temperament and just intonation. The VT-12 also has onboard vocal guides and backing tracks based on the bundled book from Berklee Press (the publishing division of Berklee College of Music), plus 50 etudes from the world-standard Concone classical vocal lessons. Visualize Your Pitch As you sing, the VT-12 tracks your pitch and displays it in real time in half-step increments with an easy-to-see illuminated pitch meter that responds quickly and accurately. The meter brightens as you approach the correct pitch and darkens as you move further away. If the guide tone is being played, the note name of the guide tone is displayed. You can play the guide tone (over a range of 24 semitones) with a button to listen to the correct pitch. In addition to personal practice, this is also a great tool for vocal teachers to show their students when they're singing the correct pitch. Harmony Check You don't have to use the VT-12 alone! You can practice with a teacher or a fellow singer, and the VT-12 will detect the two voices simultaneously and display the note names. There are three pitch-detection modes onboard: MONO EQUAL (one voice detected using equal temperament); CHORD EQUAL (two voices detected using equal temperament); and CHORD JUST (two voices detected using just intonation/major).

I found this on sale through a 3rd party seller. I sing at church and after reading the reviews thought that this would be a good tool to keep my voice in shape. I kept the unit in my car and hooked it up to the stereo. The microphone will feedback if you do this so essentially it became a very expensive playback device for the warm-up exercises, which can be found in the following book:Based on the quality of the exercises, I purchased the book which came with a CD which I loaded onto a USB drive and my iPhone. The only thing I am missing are the instrumental only versions of the exercises, and the Opera exercises, which I haven't really used anyway. My suggestion if you have decent pitch would be to try purchasing the book / CD first and see if this is sufficient.

Roland VT12 review. After a year's use, I can confidently say this device is a game changer. It's THE most useful gadget I've bought in years! It transformed my vocal training (I'm a pianist but see vocal work as a critical element of overall musicianship) from anxious guesswork to precise performance. My 'inner ear' is now connected to my voice in a way I never thought possible (for me).FYI, I love Amazon and transact hundreds of times a year but I did buy my VT12 from Sweetwater and paid the extra shipping. The Japanese imports offered here don't provide the supporting documentation in English. The Sweetwater device I received is obviously packaged for US market.

I was pleasantly surprised by all the Roland can do. When I did the warm up exercises and saw how accurate it was when you are on or off pitch, I was amazed! I feel I made a wise investment for my ministry.

I've been a vocal coach for many years. I use a very limited set of vocal exercises and they are mostly derived from traditional exercises. This Roland VT-12 Vocal Trainer has built-in over a hundred of vocal exercises applicable to pop (1-86) and classical(100) music. These exercises were developed and are being used in the well-known Berklee College of Music. The real gem of this product are the pop exercises that has a drum, bass, guitar and piano accompaniment. The exercises are slanted towards pop/rock, jazz swing, gospel rock and latin. On a personal level, this gadget monitors the key of your sung notes and feeds back instantaneously if the note is flat or sharp as you sing along with the exercises. It's a revolutionary voice training gadget that no singer or voice coach should be without.
