I skate for fitness, distance, and speed. I speed-skate on indoor ice in the winter and on the road in the summer.I bought these a little over a year ago, and if I knew then what I know now, I would have gotten a cheap set of Bont skates. I'll share what I've learned since then to better understand why.1) Ankle-support - I love having the straps tight around my ankles, but after speed-skating on the ice without ankle support, I realize now how much control and power I'm losing with the ankle brace. Unless you have an injury you're protecting, if you're serious enough about skating that you're looking at $300 blades, you should consider graduating to skates without ankle support. The transition for me was relatively painless: The first 3 or 4 times I was out, my calves were sore (DOMS) from me putting a different type of stress on them. After a couple of weeks, though, I was fully acclimated. Unless you're doing tricks, you're probably not putting the types of stresses on your ankles that would warrant ankle support. The ankle support is only really useful for protecting your ankle as you learn to skate or if you're protecting an injury, and will keep you from pulling off some more advanced techniques, such as the double-push.2) Wheel Size - The advantage to bigger wheels is higher top-speeds and better handling on bumpy terrain. The downside is slower turns and more weight (see point #3). All and all, if you're into fitness or speed, you really want 100mm+ wheels, such as those on these skates. Note that these are NOT 4x100mm wheels, but 3x100 and 1x90mm. This is called a "hi-lo" setup and tries to give you the speed of big wheels without sacrificing too much maneuverability by shortening the overall length. IMO, the 10mm you're saving makes no noticeable difference in terms of performance and, if anything, makes maintenance far more difficult because you have to buy 2 sizes of wheels and you can't do a standard rotation on them.3) Weight - The heavier the skate, the more force you'll exert in each push and the harder it will be to pull the skate back after the push. If you're into fitness, the weight's not going to be a problem, it's just going to add to the workout. If you're going for speed or distance, though, you're going to feel the difference. These skates are heavy. Really heavy. If you're skating purely for fitness, have no interest in more advanced skating techniques, or you really need the ankle support for health reasons, these are good skates. If you're going for speed or endurance, you're much better off getting a more professional skate setup.

AMAZING SKATES! I wanted to get back into regular exercise and figured this would be a good motivating tool. These skates look siiiick first of all. Definitely an attention grabber when skating around cyclists / dog walkers and runners. The skates are so fast smooth and effortless. I'm coming from a cheap $40 walmart pair that was 10+ years old to this, so it is quite a drastic change even to what is available in terms of skate technology. The wheels hold up well and are nice and large, they are a hair skinnier than my other wheels i believe they were 70mm. Whenver I went to skating rinks and trails I would always get jealous when the skating rink employees would just zip past me effortlessly.. Now I can see why it's possible with quality skates. The skate boot is EXTREMELY comfortable! IT is a SNUG fit getting in and out of the skates but once it is in there is no discomfort and it felt great to be able to do a 2.5 hour session and have no blisters, no soreness or pain in my feet or ankles. The only pain was from my calves burning lol which is how it should be since my calves are getting the workout! I got the skates +.5 size larger than my normal running shoes and would definitely recommend doing that. I had actually called rollerblade themselves asking about getting a larger or smaller size depending on the fit and she said to get .5 size larger. I am so glad i did. Included is the brake, the allan wrench + attachment for maininting wheels, Black laces come on the skates already and also inlcudes a acid green set of shoe laces too if you want to swap them out, as well as a manual.

Very comfortable and makes skating easy and fun. I also own the twister 80. I got these just skate longer, and faster. With the 100's wheels it is a bit faster then the 80's and easier to skate. Thought i would have a hard time adjusting but not at all. Very excellent skates for a good workout. Helps you stay fit and active. A must for a fitness person.

very upset after only 2.5 months of use and spending over 500 CAD$ (shipping, handling and currency conversion) the ratchet on the left lower skate broke and the upper is loose and its past the window of the return policy.

these skates are fantastic. They look great, they are comfortable and the ratchet straps/laces combo make for a nice fit. They are EXTREMELY FAST. If you dont have great control while skating, you may be in for an unpleasant ride. Even with very gradual down slopes they pick up speed very quickly and even as an experienced skater, it can be hard to safely stop. Otherwise, for an athletic/speed combo, Rollerblade hit the nail on the head.
