The Rothco is of the same quality as the Ontario sawback machete that I already had, good blade thickness, came decently sharp, full tang with solid rivets. I have not used the sawtooth side yet. Remember these do not come with any kind of sheath so if you are carrying it with you somplace you will want to find one, I use a plastic GI type sheath.

Strong, although the handle is getting a bit wobbly. I put this thing through some serious vine and ivy cutting. I mean vines as thick as baseball bats, and I was able to chop some of these pretty clean in one hack. I sharpen mine after use… of course it will get chips in it if you strike rocks or concrete so don’t be a moron and you’re good.

I just received this item today and I have to say I didn't expect much. I ordered a cheap machete and got a cheap piece of metal with a handle haphazardly slapped on to it and sharpened by a Taiwanese preteen. I can't explain everything wrong with this in a coherent paragraph so this initial review will be broken up into sections.-The steel feels like it has been hardened too much for the type of tool that it is.I understand that not everyone is familiar with steel hardness so I will briefly break down how this works. Steel is generally hardened by the way that it is heated. "Softer" steels are used for most blades and other tools that require that the steel have some give to it and hold some resilience. This blade feels as if it has been hardened, has very little give to it, and will likely break on the first couple of swings.-The blade is unevenly sharpenedI don't talk about "out of box sharpness" when I talk about blades I order on the internet (or in the store for that matter). It's a blade, I know how to sharpen it, I will likely sharpen it, and tool blades like a machete should not be shaving razor sharp anyway. A less pronounced edge angle on a blade gives it toughness and resilience and with a machete the weight and balance should be where your chopping power comes from, not the sharpness. The issue with blade sharpness on this one is that some areas are sharp-ish, and other areas of the blade feel are as dull as the back ridge. I couldn't even sharpen this blade without entirely reshaping it.-The handle is not properly setThis may seem like a minor issue in blade construction but it is the biggest issue I have with this blade. The handle pieces are set to either side of the blade but it's not properly measured. The handle pieces are a little under half a centimeter off leaving a gap on the back side of the handle and a hard, sharp ridge on the front. Even with gloves this is going to bite into the hand and it will probably cut. This is such a simple issue to fix in production but this blade was actually shipped like this. Inexcusable. Pair this with the generally bad ergonomics of the blade and you have a recipe for a lot of pain after using this for even a few minutes.I can't state any more that this is just the absolute worst item I have seen. I bought this after my 2$ Harbor Freight machete broke after five years of semi-regular use and for literally ten time the cost I would expect to see something that's not going to scare me to use at the very least. To say the least, I will not buy any product made by Rothco again, regardless of the value.

So strong once you swing it at a branch it get stuck and is hard to get out due to cutting very deep, still it is what i want, less swigs to cut branches, bushes, hard wood, easy to clean, and edge is on point.

Fantastic machete for the price. Blade comes sharp enough for brush clearing, and the sawback is functional for both cutting saplings and tearing up briers, unlike most. Blade is also full tang with a solid handle. Make sure to also get a puck for sharpening and you're set.
