Rub ‘N Buff Frequently Asked Questions

What is the date stamped on the tube?

The date stamped on the crimped end of the Rub ‘N Buff tube is the manufacturing date. There is no expiration day or used by date, as this is a shelf stable product.

Why is my tube of Rub ‘N Buff the wrong consistency?

Rub ‘n Buff is made from a combination of wax and solvents. Over time, it can sometimes separate in the tube. To restore the proper consistency, replace the cap snugly and knead the rub in your hand for several minutes to warm and remix the product.

Why is my tube of Rub ‘N Buff liquid?

Rub ‘n Buff is made from wax, as such it can be affected by changes in temperature. If your tube is melted, replace the cap snugly and place is a cooler place to thicken.

Why is my tube gritty?

Some colors of Rub ‘N Buff may contain more pigment then others. Kneading the tube should help smooth the consistency, but some colors (such as Ebony) may need more buffing during application to smooth the finish.

Cleaning Instructions

Scrape away any excess Rub 'n Buff from the surface. Apply Dawn dish soap or Simple Green at full strength by working it in with your fingers. Allow to set and work for 3-4 minutes.

On Carpet: Using a clean rag and clear, warm water, begin removing the cleaner and product. Rinse frequently. You may have to repeat this procedure more than once to completely clean the area.

NOTE: Do not use cleaners that contain solvents as these may cause the Rub 'n Buff to disperse into the carpet padding.

On Clothing: Treat the area as described above and put clothing into the washing machine.

I have used two other colors of rub n buff with great success. It’s easy to use and I love the stuff. So I went all in on this three pack of the ebony and was remarkably disappointed. It is not an exaggerated statement that this stuff almost ruined my home today. I’m massaged the tube and massaged the tube as advised. I put it in a container and stirred the crap out of it. It is chunky and flaky. After it dried, it kept coming off on my hand repeatedly and fell onto the floor in tiny flecks which I had to very gently with a dry paper towel spend 20 minutes cleaning up.And that this item is eligible for a refund is not entirely true. There is no method through your order that a refund can be requested and fulfilled. I tried today. And was told it was ineligible. BEWARE!!!!

I have an old dachshund statue that has faded over the years. I'd experimented with several solutions (latex paint, spray paint), but none preserved or restored the original gloss. Then I remembered Rub 'n Buff! It took three tries, but my statue looks brand new! Highly recommend this product.

The reviews were correct when they said the texture is thick and grainy. I ordered it anyway because I love my silver one. I tried kneading it as suggested but that didn’t help. I can get it to work on outdoor items, but I wouldn’t use it on anything very important.

The ebony color is super grainy and didn’t adhere to any material I tried it on. It just left sticky black smears on everything it touched. I also tried the multipack of gold colors and those were great - nice and smooth. So I think it’s the color that’s the issue. Don’t waste your money.

Indispensable for the artist or crafter. Easy to use. Covers nicks and scratches on furniture, or provides a change in color and shines to a nice finish. A great DYI item for refinishing or upgrading picture frames and refurbishing decorative items.
