It works! I'm amazed. I really wasn't sure if it would work, but I definitely didn't feel prepared to try muriatic acid so I decided to try this out. You can see in the picture where I cleaned the bottom portion of the photo (its amazing and exactly what I hoped it would do!) and where I did not yet clean with at the top! The photo was taken when the brick was dry. The instructions on the bottle were clear and easy to follow. Yes, it does require a lot of elbow grease and a scrub brush (I also opted for goggles and good gloves to be careful). There wasn't a strong odor to the spray. I'm glad I worked in sections, because it did take a lot of scrubbing. Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm excited to finish cleaning the rest of my brick fireplace!

the people complaining likely didn’t follow the instructions. it’s brick - it’s not easy to clean. but this did work.if you need something stronger you can use an acid instead but you risk wrecking your brick so i’d just use this and use a bit more elbow grease.5 star product

Used this to clean bricks in the fireplace. It did alright but not good. Used another product and got far better results. The fireplace was in really need of cleaning as it had a fireplace insert that had been removed. If it was just for a regular cleanup, it could have done better.

I used this for the cream colored brick inside my fireplace. It did remove some of the soot but did not remove the stains. If anything it just made the stain a little lighter but barely. I would not purchase this product again, I do not think it is worth the money.

I bought this not expecting much of an improvement on my fireplace. It’s over 50 years old and the inside was all black from years of soot. This product really cleaned it up! I was shocked by how clean it got the bricks in the fireplace. Just watch out because the fumes are crazy! Keep a window open and you’ll be fine!

I have Adobe brick lining my fireplace and a good dousing of this spray left on for 10 min and then scrubbed away with a brush barely did anything to the slight black discoloration.Save your money and buy something else.

Only takes one thin layer off at a time. In one location there is a big black mass and this doesn't do much for it. The black mass is maybe 1/4-1/2 inch thick in one spot. If there is a thin amount of black it will take it off. Comes off in thin layers. Spraying and wiping with an old t shirt. Doesn't seem to be getting me anywhere. A little at a time. Should have a tray underneath as well. This is last years mess, I am cleaning. If you get it on your finger it is like bleach. Gets slimy like. The smell is not too bad for a cleaning chemical of some sorts. When you spray it within a fireplace it can get misty or somewhat in the air. I would back off for a little bit after spraying and then come back to it.When I spray it I can see brown/black coming off or mixing with it. It doesn't work magically though. You don't want to ruin the brick as well. Some masons clean with acids. That can be extremely dangerous however. Also, I would recommend rubber gloves of some sort. Maybe safety glasses as well. Bottle I think tells you that it is an irritant.
