The thing is soo heavy on the cutting end. The motor needs to be on the handle end. I got it to trim between house and hedges but it is so heavy I had to pick it up and just drop it straight down. This was killing my back in no time. I am keeping it because I have an application where I use it straight overhead.

The unit is plenty powerful enough, but it is a lot of work to use. I am an average size 72-year-old man, and because of the weight, design and balance, it is difficult for me to handle. And that is without the extension attached.What really makes it difficult to use, is that there is no trigger lock to keep the tool running while trimming. As you change angles to shape a bush, it is difficult to keep the trigger depressed. As you follow the bush contour, the handle angle changes, and your hand gets twisted out of position, which makes it difficult to keep pressure on the trigger.At a little over 7 lbs., without battery or extension, it seems like it ought to be very easy to handle. The cutting end is about 5 lbs., but when using it, feels like much more. I suspect if you are younger and stronger, the weight will be less of an issue, but the lack of a trigger lock is probably going to be a deal breaker for me.I did not use the included shoulder strap because I felt it constrained my movement, so I will use it to see if it makes any difference. If it does, I will update this review within a couple of days.

Got this for a large-scale hedge trimming project and holy cow am I glad. I'm not a landscaping expert (just tending my own garden) but this made a weekend-long project a fun but tiring event. Neighbor who shares the dividing hedge has a few gas and electric hedge trimmers and he's convinced to scoop up a refurbished or new one of these after the weekend working together.This thing reaches father than my dad jokes, is sharp as an honor student on Adderall, and is surprisingly maneuverable when NOT using the second extender pole added on (be warned, it can flex a bit so I only used it when able to use the hedge edge as a fulcrum).Weight: 4/5 - the blade is a bit too heavy for the extended pole to support, so there is an awkward flex to the shaft when holding horizontally.Value for money: 5/5 - especially if scooping up a refurbished unitBattery life: 5/5 - I have a spare and could charge up one while using the other. To be fair, if I was more experienced and spent less time chatting with my neighbor and more time trimming it might have been good to have 2 spares. Take it as a perk: you get to socialize a bit!

My old Ryobi trimmer loosened up like scissors that were too loose. This one has an improved design. I really like the advantage that the pole offers. When I trim the hedges next to my lane with my Stihl, I have a difficult time reaching high enough for delivery trucks. The Ryobi pole trimmer has solved that problem and it trims without hacking.
