These boots are awesome for hiking on technical terrain. They have great ankle support and the boot holds your foot in place with very little play, especially on the downhill. However, I did up-size 1/2 a size because i do a lot of technical hiking and it allows for a little more play between your toes and the toebox, but in my opinion they are true to size. Also, they are super waterproof! I tested them out above the laces and absolutely no water got in. The Vibram soles are grippy with deep lugs and in my experience do great on wet rocky terrain along with loose rock and dirt trails. The insole/footbed is firm so don't expect a lot of cush. I switched the insoles from the mid to the narrow and i actually found it to be more supportive and comfortable. So the verdict, I do a lot of technical hiking for work and play and I LOVE these boots. When i wear these out I am definitely getting the new model. Go for it!

My size is 43 I ordered 44 and they were small. I went to REI and got the boots the same size 44 and they fit perfectly. Magic.

Was surprised that these boots were good out of the box. I read one of the reviews that said that these boots were some what stiff and I find that they are not real stiff but stiff enough comparing them to my other boots (La sportive-Mammut -Asolo- Dachstien- Lowa) these boots are more relaxed and flexible the them all and lighter. Very good product .Worth buying. Not For winter climbs below 20. Toe box is roomie. Heel stiffness fixed by using after market insole.

The best pair of boots I have ever bought. Waterproof, comfortable, sizing correct and look pretty good as well. Have just used them In the mountains last weekend but I would have to say they are just at home worn casually. Fully recommend them and am considering ordering a pair for my daughter for future mountain trecking etc .

Also doch lieber Goretex als ohne, besonders in naßkalten Gebieten.

first pair of boots i ever bought online..i am extremely picky and need them to fit perfect. i can try on a pair of boots without lacing them and know if they are a good choice for me..with these...i gotta say..i was quite impressed. they had the normal stiffness of any new boot at first, but the minute i put my foot in,,i said yes, ...within 30 minutes i forgot i had new boots on...since then i wear them daily to really break em in for my spring hikes, but i see no problem there. love the look and style as well. highly recommended. i will be buying a pair in the yellow color soon. will update in 6 months.

I've only worn them around the house and garden, but first impression are that they are really comfy. I'll be trying them out properly this weekend. I had read in the reviews that the sizing was small, so I ordered a half size bigger, with my slightly thicker walking socks they appear to fit me fine.

I have owned both the Salewa Mountain Trainer and the Alpine Trainer low-top shoes. The Alpine Trainer is too narrow in the forefoot making it uncomfortable over time. The Mountain Trainer has more room in the forefoot and it has a fantastically firm sole, but it doesn't lock my ankles without using a lace locking technique (which works fine). It also suffers from a short tongue and low cuff, even for a low-top shoe. I love everything else about the Mountain Trainer so I went for an upgrade to the Mid version of the shoe. This boot has a slightly thicker sole than the low-top version but the same tread pattern. Both are firm enough to stand on ladder rungs all day without making my feet sore. The fit of this boot is one of the best I've ever tried. There is enough room in the forefoot to make it comfortable while the fit through the heel and ankle is firm but soft. The ride is on the firm side but I think it will do well as a technical, fast-paced boot.

Could not find these boots in Houston to try on so I ordered my normal size 12 and then ordered a second pair in size 13 to compare side by side. Hands down the 13 was the winner. As always Amazon service was excellent and they returned the size 12 no questions asked and applied a 20% discount that I missed out on when placing my orders. After wearing the boots around town for a few days I then wore them on the Eagle Rock Loop in Arkansas, a nearly 30 mile loop hike with lots of uphill and downhill travel. It rained 2 out of 3 days while we were hiking and these boot lived up to all of my expectations. My feet remained dry and I had no blisters.

Love the way these boots look and I've gotten several compliments on them!! Durability is great after a nice layer of Scotchgaurd to protect the suede! I would suggest going a half size larger than normal especially if you have wide feet, the toebox is narrow!
