Bought this to replace a existing dial lock that had warn out after 25 years. The original was a Sargent and Greenleaf combination lock so I replace it with this new one. Well made, very easy to work with and install, solid combination lock.Prior to ordering make sure the model will fit your safe. Go to the Sargent and Greenleaf page and follow the instructions to identify your present lock, so you can purchase the correct replacement unit. The kit comes complete with everything you need. The instructions are excellent. Make sure you read them completely before you start the replacement of your lock. Note the manufacturer recommends a professional. I completed my install/replacement on my own. I have never done it before, but with these directions there is no way to go wrong. Take your time and you will have your replacement installed quickly.Setting your combination is easy using the separate instructions.Well made, easy to install, fit perfectly.Would buy again and I do recommend.

The keypad on my AMSEC safe was having issues and it locked me out. Thought it was the batteries so I replaced them with fresh Duracells twice and still no go. A helpful locksmith had me try to hard reset it by removing both 9v batteries and pressing all the numbers on the keypad to drain any residual power. Took a few tries and it finally worked and I was able to get into the safe! Test it a few more times with the safe open and it was completely dead. Thankfully it opened for just that one time. Ordered this S&G 6730 mechanical lock, arrived 2 days later and I was able to replace it myself. Was easier than I thought! Here's the reason why I'm knocking one star off.The lock was installed with VD (vertical down) as with the old digital lock. The dial was turned all the way until it was flush, but I had to turn it a little more to line up with the VD mark. That caused it to slightly bind and the dial was not as smooth when turned. The other option was to turn it back out one turn and line it up with the VD mark. But, this causes the dial to be too loose, but it felt better when turned. Unfortunately, when it's that "loose", I can hear and feel the last combination number click. That makes the last combination number useless. In the end, I tightened the dial in one turn and that got rid of the noticeable click on the last number. Just have to deal with a snug dial.As a side note for folks that's having issues changing the combination. The instructions didn't mention this or in their youtube video (unless didn't see it), but you have to put in your unlock code on the "changing index" mark first before you insert the key to change your combo, otherwise they key wouldn't be able to be inserted. For instance, my lock came with just the factory default of 50, no other numbers. So, turn your dial counter clockwise to 50 4x for the "changing index". Now you should be able to insert the key and change your combo normally.

I installed an EMP Proof Sargeant & Greenleaf Mechanical Dial lock on my Cannon Scout 19 gun safe to replace the unreliable NL Electronic digital keypad lock that came with it. After 10 years the NL Electronic Keypad lock would only open after every 4 tries or so and sometimes not open at all and lock me out after the 4th try for 10 minutes. I called Cannon Safe because of the Limited Lifetime Warranty. First they had me purchase a New Duracell or Energizer Battery with an expiration date of 2027/28. Not locking the Safe for 2 weeks because I did not trust it. When that did not work I called Cannon back. They told me they would ship me a new NL digital keypad and lock body. After waiting with my safe door left open another 4 weeks, they still have not shipped my lock. I called again to see if they had shipped it yet, and the Rep said it is probably on backorder and they would send me a tracking number once it ships. After 6 weeks of having to leave my safe door open for fear I would not be able to get it open, I started researching both digital keypad locks and Mechanical dial locks. Apparently 10-15 years is pretty common for all manufacturers digital keypad locks to go bad. Not wanting to go through this hassle again. I decided on S&G Mechanical dial lock, as they are the gold standard made in USA. I ordered the S&G lock on Amazon and received it in two days. What should have been a 1 hour job turned into a nightmare. (Shoddy Cannon Safe Craftsmanship). Started the job and found the NL Lock body only had 2 out of 4 screws holding it to the safe door. Both screws they used a drill driver to install the Phillips screws and completely walered out the Phillips head. A 3rd hole was completely smooth walered out with no screw and the 4th hole was never tapped with threads. I couldn't get one of the damaged Phillip's head screws out. I had to stop and go to the hardware store to buy an Easy out screw extractor to get it out. 3 of the 4 holes the screw threads were gungered or walered out and would not accept the new screws. I had to stop again, go to the hardware store and buy two Taps, 1/4-20 for the lock body to tap screw threads in the walered up screw holes and 8-32 for the dial ring which I knew I had to tap from my research anyway. (Do yourself a favor, buy "quality" Taps and T-handle tap drivers, ie Dewalt, or Irwin). The Harbor Freight taps don't work and are junk! I know this because I tried them first. Finally after the two trips to the hardware store I completed the task of tapping the holes. From there everything was smooth sailing. I installed the S&G Mechanical Safe dial lock by watching YouTube. Thanks S&G for making a more reliable safe lock.Who knows when I will receive the replacement NL Lock from Cannon? I am much more at easy with the S&G Mechanical dial lock.
