I have mine on the transom to pump water to my livewell on an aluminum boat. In order to pump the hose has to be straight up. It would not pump without the hose up. Mine is mounted at an angle. I do not have a recirculate on my setup so with this big of a pump you don't have to leave it on long to give fresh water.
