The last time I car camped, sitting outside to relax or eat was a problem because of flys and mosquitos. I also had to find a spot where I could hang my changing and portable toilet privacy cylinder. Also, if I left my campsite in my car to go hike or kayak somewhere in else in the park, it looked like my site was vacant. I would put up a sign and hope it was honored. This tent solves all these issues. It's lightweight. The frame is easy to unfold and you can put it up alone. Clips attach the tent to the frame and the side supports extend to raise it remarkably high, even for my 6'3" kid to stretch out his arms. It attaches securely to the car with wheel and top straps with suction cup hook bases. There is a fly if you want to cover the screened top and further protect the tent to car connection and keep out possible rain. All three sides can be opened for ventilation or closed for privacy. What's really great is you can detach it from your car and it stands alone to keep your campsite spoken for while you drive elsewhere for an adventure. It's big enough to accommodate several people in folding chairs with a decent sized table or several folks in sleeping bags for the night. I can stand to change in privacy with everything zipped up. But I still have access to my car and can close the hatch and sleep inside if I want the security and climate control that my hybrid offers. It's a nice luxury for this solo car camper to expand her personal space and make it bug free.

First, one has to know that no description of any tent I have ever seen tells you how many "real" people could sleep in a tent. They always over estimate and one needs to cut that number in half! That said, I did not use this for a sleeping tent. I attached this to my Dodge Mini which has stow and go seating - so I was able to use a mattress and sleep inside the van. This left the entire space inside the tent as "living" space. Because of the height of the tent this really worked well and having large screen-window options is grand. The floor is the same material as the top so you will want a floor tarp that is smaller than the inside of the tent (or folded over) to lay under the tent to protect it from damage while walking over stones and sticks - dont' let a bigger one than the size of the tent and let it hang outside the tent just to bring rain inside! I also use an appropriately sized wooden handle to prop up my tailgate so that the weight of the door and tent don't wear out the lifting cartridges on the gate. Build quality is a little questionable and one may need to be clever to setup the tent because of the height (use a stool or attach poles before fully extending roof) and we'll see how this holds up over time. I have another one of these types of things and it cost twice as much. It is smaller, but much lighter and takes up much less room to pack. However this one offers so much more height and room. I'm going to keep and use both depending upon the trip.

As avid road-trip campers, my wife and I have been watching this growing trend toward vehicle-attachable tents. There are obvious pros and cons - but issues remain. For example, tent placement is suddenly a lot less flexible as it would have to be directly adjacent to the car. How about gaps to prevent mosquitoes and other insects (not to mention other critters) from getting into the tent? Vehicle exhaust seems problematic as well.Regards vehicle connectivity, this one has a large (genuinely long) 'umbilical' tunnel, which provides a fairly decent airlock to the back of the vehicle. There's some gap issues, but they're fairly minor. You'll have to be mindful of the heat from the exhaust pipe (not to mention the danger of exhaust fumes...) damaging the tent material. The biggest advantage to this model (and we've had many tents over the decades) is the pop-up nature of the frame. When it comes to pulling into a campground late at night, and you're tired but you still have to set up the tent quietly so as not to disturb sleeping neighbors - this class of tent is far and away the best. Additionally, the interior dimensions are pretty generous. You'll love the height - you'll feel like you're in a booth with a vaulted ceiling.Overall, this is a fairly simple, no-frills tent that's got a decent size, excellent quick-setup frame, and it can connect to you vehicle if that's your thing. The build quality of the tent itself is good, and the rainfly is sufficient to keep you dry, and the tent well-ventilated, in poor weather.
