the recess for the bolt head is the wrong size for a 3/8" bolt, cleat body is skinnier and weaker than other brands. base is not flat so it wobbles.

If you need to use a lag screw to fasten the clete to a dock, this item will be a problem---a 3/8" lag screw has a hex head too small, and a 1/2" screw's head is too big. There is no such thing as a 7/16" lag screw, but if there were, it would fit fine. The bottom line is that the cleat cannot be cinched down tight to the mounting surface without drilling out the hex hole large enough to fit a socket wrench inside. PITA.

We needed another set of cleats for a 2nd boat. These are super solid and will support decent size ropes. We had to drill out the holes on the top of one in order to use lag bolts (we secured directly into a set post) with a socket. On the other one we used bolts and nuts.Worked great on our bulkhead to tie up a pontoon boat that we leave in the water.Highly recommend !!
