This little chain is exactly what I was looking for. We live in an older home that's accessible to the street and I wanted something that was easy to add, use, and nice to look at. They are super easy to install - you will need a drill bit and screwdriver.However, the 3/4" screws that came with this product are garbage - bring your own. At minimum, use 1" screws for the door and 2" inch for the door trim. Longer if you can make it work. Same principle as a deadbolt - don't trust your door's security to tiny wood screws. Get some decently sized construction screws - you won't regret it and the installation process doesn't change at all. I was able to install four of these on my exterior doors in about half an hour.

The bad: This is made of metal, and covered with a paint finish which chips off within hours of installation. It doesn't seem to impact the security, but now it "rubs" together... it doesn't glide as easily as most locks of this style that you're probably used to. I contacted the seller who said this was normal. Well, every hotel and apartment I've ever been in, the lock glided, and didn't feel like it was scraping. This one does. For something I use several times a day that kinda sucks. Also, they claim that it's made of "silver stainless steel" then painted. Take a look at the pictures where it's chipped and judge for yourself. Looks like normal cast metal to me.The good: the price is fair, the look is nice (while the paint lasts), and the feature that sold me was a slightly longer chain than most, which I needed. Installation was fast. Four screws and everything is installed. If you don't want to use the extra security "button" you can simply bend the plate back a bit before installation, and it won't engage.

I purchased this when my child kept running away (she's autistic). The lock is great, and would be an easy task if simply putting into a regular wooden door/wall. It comes with a free adhesive metal piece with very strong adhesive on the back. The thing is .. the metal adhesive piece doesn't actually fit to any of the pieces. It would be a great thing to hang your keys on if used separately. I needed it for my glass patio door (since my daughter will climb up the patio railing that's a little taller than her and attempt to escape) and got it to work by hammering the chain into the metal slots and it does work. It hardly wanted to budge so it look a lot of hammering to get it to bend enough to secure the chain. But I'm happy with the product. It would just be nice if the metal piece with adhesive somehow fit one of the metal pieces to avoid the hassle.

We didn't realize that our backdoor was metal so the screws wouldn't penetrate the door. However we were able to screw it into the wood part of the window frame on the door.We aren't necessarily worried about intruders (we have a deadbolt, alarm, and 2 trained dogs😊), but we needed a lock that would prevent our kids from getting to the pool unsupervised. This definitely does the trick! It takes 2 hands to unlatch this lock and we placed it right above adult eye level so our kids are safe. Would recommend this product to other foster parents who need extra locks for their license.

Exactly what I was looking for. My door opens out. I like the length of the chain and how I was able to control how much it opened. Will post updates if I run into any issues.Update: 3 months later and still no issues. Nobody has broke it open. Very great quality. Love it!

I wanted a chain that would make me feel more secure at night, because my apt. complex requires that the superintendent and workers have keys just in case of fire or problem flooding--so, this makes me feel safer at night that no one will walk in on me as I sleep. BUT, it's not heavy duty enough and could easy be wrenched out of the door and door frame with a sturdy slam of a push by a very strong person. It is good for checking who is at the door without opening all the way. Make sure you pay attention to which ends go up and which ends go down for inserting and sliding the chain in and down before installing.

This product is not only functional, it is a beautiful addition to any room you wish to make more secure. For such a cheap lock, I expected rough, unfinished metal, when in reality, the metal is smooth, shiny, and STUNNING. I love this lock! What can I say? It does the job and looks good doing it.
