The story behind SGT KNOTS begins with Mike Shelley. After serving in the Marine Corps, Mike started a simple website selling custom paracord keychains and bracelets. At the time, paracord was the military’s best kept secret.

Mike was shocked to discover how difficult it was to find paracord online, but even more shocked when his products began flying off the shelves faster than he could create them. The need for accessible, high-quality paracord was obviously out there, so Mike “SGT KNOTS” Shelley set out to make it happen.

As SGT KNOTS grew and branched out to new products - ropes, twines, cord - Mike saw a darker side of the rope supply industry. Suppliers masquerading as manufacturers and manufacturers using deceptive production techniques to cheapen products. The Marine Corps holds honesty and integrity in high regard. Mike knew SGT KNOTS would need to bring these values to the market.

Through years of trial and error, Mike built close relationships with reliable, top-quality American and international manufacturers that couldn't get into big-box retailers, but that plenty of DIYers, boat owners, farmers and ranchers, and businesses wanted. I had high hopes for this product, not liking the previous straps I was using. They work OK but still can’t be trusted like a ratcheting strap. Don’t get me wrong, they are a good product. I just had higher expectations for them.

This is a double strap. Good material! Wish it was break-over cam lock, makes it hard to get the strap good and tight. But... the real issue is how the return leg of the strap is sewn. Unlike the other sewn joints where the load is spread over multiple rows of stitching, the return leg is sewn backwards by my reasoning. Makes it so that only 5 end stitches must hold at least 500# working load. And once those rip out, the rest will probably just zipper open.

I ordered the tie down straps for the boat. The service was prompt and the quality appears to be excellent. I thought they should come in a pair but it does not say that anywhere. The picture shows one and when you hit the buy button one shows up but I need two. I ordered 2 and of course now have 2 sets. It’s not the end of the world because I am okay with a backup. I think somewhere it should indicate they are a pair.

The buckle is not at all like what is shown in the product photo. The straps weren't threaded through the buckles and there were no instructions. Tried every combination I could think of and nothing worked. Called SGT KNOTS and they weren't sure what I had received either. They were at least polite on the phone and asked me to return the product.

When using on a 19 Yamaha jet boat. Vibrates loose & lost one on freeway. When used to tie down Kawasaki UTV 4x4... was ok, but just ok.Would not buy again.
