I have an Atlas 12" commercial duty lathe. I have been working with a piece of 1" line shaft off of a roll-up overhead door. I have had nothing but trouble with cutting off in the lathe with this piece of metal. AXA tool post set 90 deg. to the work. Sharp highspeed cutoff blade. Plenty of cutting oil and tried many different speeds. Nothing worked very well until. I balked the price of this tool but decided to get it anyway. It works fantastically well. I can run faster speeds, and the cut is very smooth and very little heat is generated. Spend the dollars and get one for you. IT WORKS!

This cut-off tool works very well. I've used both HSS and carbide for cut off tools, but unfortunately I had always gone the cheap route and bought knock off tools. Don't make the same mistake. Spend the money and buy the better tooling. This tool comes with a holder that is substantially bigger than the holders that come with the knock off tools. It cuts straight, doesn't bind and I'm using it with my power feed.
