I bought these as spare cables but the quality appears to be the same or better than I have on my Specialized bike

This is the standard for brake cables. Die drawn and machine wound, these brake cables can take incredible lever pull without worry. Just be sure to pull hard on the lever for one minute straight to help stretch them out when first installed. And then, go back and reset the clamp to account for the slight stretch. Then do a work in of the cable by doing 10 to 20 short, hard stops. After that, you should be good to go.I have been using these cables for over 20 years now without any failures or problems. Another quality Shimano product and five stars.

Supposed to be stainless but attracts a magnet so pretty sure they will rust.

Very nice brake cable, Made in Japan, appears to be very high quality materials and comes with a cable end cap. If you're replacing a break cable on your mountain bike, then just buy this. Why go for a cheaper brand?

High quality Jap made stainless steel MTB brake cables from Shimano. Not particularly slick but no worse than most others. However, I can always depend on these to be defect-free and rust resistant! As far as I know Shimano don't offer PTFE coated brake cables in a mountain bike version... maybe because up-market MTB's all use disc brakes now (or because only road bars have the tight bends). These stainless brake cables can be made to run pretty slick regardless. Don't buy generic zinc plated Brake cables unless you only care about paying the lowest price. Gen Teflon-coated cables are usually not stainless, sometimes lose their coatings, and often are universal fit (for road or MTB, w/ a different anchor fitting on each end) which means they are always threaded into their housings AFTER being cut.Bought from Amazon, supplied by 'Xtreme Bike & Sport' who packed them carefully & sent them promptly. What I couldn't tell at the time I placed my order was whether the cables would be individually retail packaged or just pulled from a bulk carton and rolled up. Fortunately the cables are all Shimano packaged, making them easier to identify (and store amongst other similar looking Shimano packets with different labels ;-)Good product, slightly expensive but worth the extra. Now sold directly by Amazon. Recommended

I ordered this product 3 different times, the first two I screwed up trying to cut it with different tools. I tried wire cutters, metal cutters, and various other things that didn't work. They all didn't leave a clean cut and I couldn't get it through the little tubes that are on my bike. You need to get the Park Tool Professional Cable and Housing cutter. It is expensive ($30 when I got it), but it is the only tool that does the job.

This Item fix good for a replacement cable. Only thing needed was to cut to length after threaded thru outer shield
