after using this for about 6 months, it's started to squeak really badly when using it. Perhaps need a bit of wd40 to fix...

GARBAGE - would not have ordered two of I knew better. This string winder is excessively noisy, it binds up and gets stiff when using it to change strings. The material looks great on the add, but it is cheap and light with typical poor quality injection moulding rough edges. The bridge pin puller works OK, but overall this gadget is not worth the asking price. Save yourself some cash and just buy a cheap Dunlop string winder. It does the exact same thing for a fraction of the cost and functions better.

Works great, there's a squeaking sound with mine when you rotate it (could just be mine, not sure if it happens with every model) but aside from that it works great. You get used to the squeaking

This string winder looks nice but it doesn't work smoothly and makes a pretty irritating sound while winding the string

I'd never used a winder before and found changing strings tedious at best. So, I needed an inexpensive item to get free shipping and I thought, "Give it a try." It does work, and it beats the heck out of winding by hand alone. This one, however, bumps on the adjacent tuners a fair amount, which is annoying. It's a design issue. It works so I gave it three stars. For the price it's fine. Next time I'll look for one that has a shaft coming straight back from the part that slips over the tuner, maybe 3/4" or so before it offsets to clear the other tuners.

String winders and string winders to some extent...but this one does work well. I play acoustic guitars, and change strings with each gig so it gets a lot of use...and, I tend to lose these things or misplace them somehow.

I bought this winder based on the positive reviews on Amazon. Oh boy, I was disappointed.First of all, the winder is really light and the plastic on it is rather thin too. I would say those 1 dollar winder feels more 'solid'.Of course that is just superficial but it works badly too.The turning action is nowhere near smooth. The shaft is constantly rubbing against the handle on the inside AND worst of all, making this speaking noise.I have used it to changed strings on 3 guitars so far and it is there squeaking away every turn.It might last me a lifetime but there is no way I am going to use it for long.It is made in USA but so what, the quality control/design just isn't there. My recommendation? Try something else.

I bought this to help my mother with tuning the Violin I purchased for her. She has terrible arthritis and she needed something that would allow her to crank the strings into tune rather than just wind them. I was afraid this might not work, but she loves it! She can't turn very fast anyway, so her slowness with this item worked for her.

Very smooth. Has a shaft that extends the length of the body, so it handles the torque well; I wound the peg fast and hard with no problems. Cuts my string changing time by 2 thirds. Very comfortable, cannot say how much I like this thing. Shubb makes awesome stuff; more quality than other brands. By the way, please do not think I am one of those Guitar Center idiots, or the idiots that think it's the best store ever. I hate crap and people and companies that sell crap. I know my stuff (Gibson LP Custom (modified to proper), running through a 1971 Ampeg V4: New Jersey Factory, Aluminum Knobs...Respect), and I can tell you that this is the best hand winder I can find. If you know of better, let me know before I buy two more of these. I doubt I'll hear from you.
