File Usage Rules

Follow the following rules to extend the service life

  1. Do not use a file to frustrate the oxide layer of the workpiece, as the hardness of the oxide layer is high and it is easy to damage the teeth of the file. The oxide layer can be polished with a grinding wheel or chiseled off with a chisel.
  2. Use one side of the new file first, then use the other side after this side is blunt.
  3. In the process of using the file, always use a copper wire brush (or wire brush) to brush the debris embedded in the tooth groove along the direction of the tooth pattern of the file. After use, all the debris must be carefully brushed off before storage.
  4. When using a file, the speed should not be too fast, otherwise it is easy to wear prematurely. The best frequency of the file back and forth is 40 times/min. The use length of the file occupies 2/3 of the full length of the tooth surface of the file.
  5. The diamond file can be used with water, but not other liquids such as oil, acid, alkali, etc., which will corrode the diamond file.
  6. Diamond files are widely used for frustrating hard metals, but not for frustrating soft metals, such as aluminum, copper, etc.
  7. Do not use files as other tools, such as knocking, prying, pressing, twisting, pulling, and hitting.
  8. When using files, do not use too much force to avoid breaking or deforming.
  9. When storing files, they must not collide and stack them; the humidity in the storage place must not be too high, and it is required to keep dry and ventilated.

I have used diamond sharpening stones and files since the 1980's. They don't move metal fast but due to the hardness of diamonds can be used on hardened metal. After a lot of use they do lose their aggressiveness but in the meantime are well worth their cost.

The four files work really well and provide a variety of shapes for many filing tasks. The red plastic handles are sturdy and have ridges for easy gripping while using.

Even dense layer of diamonds with no ridge at the rear where many diamond files have due to the nature of the electroplating that holds them on. Cheap plastic handles are easily replaced if you want bigger ones. They are driven on not molded on.

These files are great and everything I was hoping they would be. The grit is perfect.

If you’re just starting on your journey as a tool guy or gal, this is the file set you need to get started. As you go, you will add more and more specialty files to your toolbag, but this 4 piece file set has all the files you will need to handle most jobs. You get the basic flat, half-round, round, and triangular files in this set. You can then add other files as the need for them arises. They made these files with an industrial diamond coating over a dense, high-quality substrate, so these files will cut even the hardest material which most files cannot cut. The one thing that this set didn’t include but should be a file card, which is needed to keep the files free of a minute particle that builds up during use. File cards are inexpensive, so I suggest buying one if you don’t already have one.I received this set free to evaluate and review, but after having used them almost every day since receiving them, I would pay the $25. 28 that they sell for. It’s the basic file set I will be recommending.

I have needed a good set of files for a long time. I was really happy to purchase these and overall, they serve my needs well. Just today I sharpened my 18" wire installer drill bit. I didn't spend a lot of time on it, but did get a decent edge pretty quickly with the flat file. Bit works so much better after being sharpened! Not a fan on the plastic handles. They seem like they could break quickly. The plastic "cases" the come in could be used to store them in, but I think most people will throw them away as they are thin plastic and likely wouldn't last long.
