We're using these to bring soccer balls to the field when riding bikes and they have worked well for that. There's more than enough room to get the ball in as well as a water bottle and maybe some other small items. I have not tried fitting a basket ball.The clip itself is plastic and very thin metal, so time will tell how it will hold up to being used by kids - but so far we haven't had any issues.

My kids play basketball and they use small duffel bags ans have a hard time to fit everything inside. I bought a simple basketball backpack and they find it hard to use too. So I saw this one with 2 (perfect for 2 kids) and would like to give it a try. It's quality is better than I thought for the price. Bottom is not mesh material which makes it more sturdy . Fits even the men regular size basketball well. It even has a little pocket inside. Best thing is you can hook it on any backpack or duffel bag!
