About this item

  • Built-in 40-watt customized O-type transformer, the output of four independent power supply winding, up to 20 groups of distributed voltage regulator line; which provides the reference power supply for the AK4499EX is a newly developed chao low noise (down to 0.3uV RMS) power supply system.
  • large FPGA for digital audio signal processing, self-developed third-generation algorithms, original multi-input channel isolation technology to ensure the purity of each input signal.
  • High-performance digital-analog hybrid phase-locked loop, excellent clock synchronization recovery technology, can significantly filter external digital input jitter secondary PLL.
  • 4-way fully balanced full DC Class A discrete circuit output.
  • Self-developed adaptive clock system technology, built-in 4-way independent ultra-low jitter audio crystal, configure femtosecond local clock system for USB part, with our self-developed thermostat technology to achieve constant temperature crystal.

Guy who thought refurb would be a good idea

(Can’t find many reviews about this dac online so I will share my thoughts here. Hope it helps you. If you’re looking for more info about this dac, make sure to read the headfi thread on it. A few other people posted their reviews. As of today, I don’t think any professional reviewers have covered this dac)Soundstage: fairly wide and tall, not terribly deep. Vocals are pulled towards the back of the soundstage. Soundstage is between speakers. Not pulled forward or pushed back much at all.Frequency response: Leans slightly bright but not by much. Fairly neutral FR. If pairing with a bright or neutral system, do not use sharp filter as it will introduce some vocal sibilance. Slow filter removes sibilance.Tonality: Bass is tight and controlled. Slightly rubbery timbre to the bass. Good detail and texture. Midrange sounds like it has a thin layer of honey over it (smooth and rich sounding). Midrange has good density and clarity. Treble is smooth with natural timbre. The dynamics are very strong. Powerful leading edges.Technicalities: very high detail retrieval with excellent clarity. Doesn’t sacrifice musicality for detail either. Despite being a detail monster, the midrange is still rich. Instrument separation is very good. However, layering is almost absent (not much depth overall).Timbre: not the most organic/natural sound but not bad. This dac favors richness over organic sound. Bass timbre is slightly rubbery. Treble timbre is very natural, revealing nice inner texture to cymbal crashes. Midrange is where most warmth is noticeable. The more intense the sound, the more warm it will be. Vocals, electric guitars, and brass instruments are the warmest sounding. Very nice tone but not fully organic.Summary: Details and clarity take the spotlight with this dac. Midrange is rich and smooth. Timbre is more warm than organic sounding. Neutral/slightly bright systems may not pair well.
