About this item

  • Advanced Foam-Cell Technology
  • Vehicle Specific Multi-Stage Valving
  • Increased Fluid Capacity for MAX Heat Dissipation
  • 369 Degree Arc Welded End Mounts and 180 Degree Directional Mounting
  • Twin Tube Construction with Chrome Plated Shaft

Black MAX twin tube shock absorbers have increased fluid capacity and utilize foam-cell technology. When the shock is working hard and gets hot, the foam-cell insert compresses to compensate for oil expansion which maintains consistent MAX performance throughout the operating temperature range of the shock. The foam-cell design also eliminates air inside the shock which allows for mounting in any direction. Arc-welded end mounts and select specific valving give this shock absorber MAX value.

Amazon and many other retailers say this will work on a Samurai. It will fit yes, but the valving is for a 1 ton Ford so don't expect to keep your fillings. Way too stiff a shock for a lightweight vehicle.

I really liked them for about the first week. But after taking them lightly off road (my buddy with his subaru wrx went no problem) the shocks were useless and felt blown.....come to find out, they were blown. They might be ok if you limit strap them at like 5” of travel. They have a very short rod and for me only having a 1.5” leveling kit on my 1995 4runner I should have been more than good on shaft length but apparently not. It said the ones I bought could accommodate up to a 3.5” lift kit, no, just no.

These do NOT have a short enough length for compression. These will bottom out at the same time you just start to hit your bump stop. After one weekend trip out these shocks were garbage useless.I have a 98 Dodge Dakota 4x4 V8 with a 3 inch torsion key and rear block lift. I rebuilt my entire front end and the lift when installing these shocks and found that when at full compression the shocks would bottom out. Then at full extension the shock was too long. Last, when at ride height, the shock only had maybe 2 inches of up travel (which equals more at the wheel, but still not enough). I completed the Washington Gambler 500 event which is a offroad event using forest service roads so nothing a Dakota cant do stock and by the end of the trip my shocks were useless. I also have the same shocks for the back for a 3 inch lift and they are also just useless. These shocks are mounted upside down too so the boot is right where the CV boot is so I took the boot off the shock to save the CV boot from rubbing. The metal sleeve for the lower mount is garbage. You can see in a picture it in my hand next to the sleeve out of the KYB shocks that was in it before, and another picture of the sleeve after trying to torque the bolt to the torque rating and it just squishes. I went to Lowes and bought solid sleeves and they held up way better. These shocks also have ZERO pressure in them out of the box. Meaning, they do not have any positive pressure like most shocks. You push them to any length and they just sit there at that length. Probably why they ended up blowing out so easily after one trip. From my measurements on my truck, no one actually makes a shock for a 3 inch lift on Dakotas. The stock length ones have a small enough length for compression but about an inch too short for full extension. Which that is the route I'm going since I'll rarely hit full extension, but when I bottom out I'd rather it hit my bump stop not the shock bottom out.

Love these shocks. Some assembly required. Easily installed with a much smoother ride. Will buy again.

I'm not a shock expert, but I like these fine. Honestly, I bought these because they are black, have sizes for my truck with varying lifts, and aren't $20. These fit my 1985 (solid front axle) Toyota pickup front end with a 2 inch lift... Well, actually the bushing was too wide for the lower mount. I had to cut the polyurethane back with the hack saw, and I used the metal sleeves from my old shocks. Sorry, but that knocks the front shocks down to 4 stars for me. Otherwise, I like them fine. The truck is definitely more streetable now.
