As most people know, 316 stainless steel is not magnetic. This picture shows the magnet firmly attached to the threaded rod. This is probably a 400 series stainless alloy. (less corrosion resistance, but better strength.)I used it in a marine application for connecting a main and a small kicker engine steering linkage together.

The rod I received turns out not to be 3/8-24 as advertised and labelled, but M10 metric, which is larger than 3/8 and smaller than 7/16. This is frustrating because I pre-drilled 12 holes in 4 inch wood to 3/8 and now must redrill, plus all th 4/8 nuts i bought must now be replaced with M10 nuts. Also, I had always understood 316 stainless is not magnetic, but magnets stick hard to this steel, so draw your own conclusions. Now I am not sure about the veracity of this seller, sadly.
